Some of the theories I've seen are pretty good. Others.. not so much. So I'm making my own theory. Rey brings balance to the force - by destroying both the dark and light. And raises up as her own allegiance which is at this moment yet to be named. Luke can see the Dark Side in her, as can Snoke (whoever the hell that is... am I the only one who sees the scars in comparison to Vaders' are nowhere near similar? for one - one is in the middle of the god damn head and the other's doesn't go past the eye) and they each try to persuade her to join their side. Fed up with their BS - Rey cuts a path through both and ultimately their followers leaving no doubt that she has brought a balance to the force - rendering both sides incapacitated and obsolete.
There are already theories on this trilogy being about balance in which the main characters will try and create their own balanced force users to negate just light or dark whjihc adds a third dynamic to the boring dark vs evil plot. A neutral group if you will... I'm kind of drunk right now so i don't know if i have just articulated what i wanted to say in the right way. ill check back tomorrow.
Is there really? I've never seen this before. Can you link me to where that's been brought up before?
Yeah, well, first of all, with no spoilers needed, the Star Wars franchise has never been one of the models for scientific sensibility. As soon as the first scene of a New Hope has ships making cool noises in space, you have to know where you're at. In terms of this new movie and your question... Spoiler ... I recall a very brief bit of verbiage about the weapon and they called it "trans-light" or something. So those blasts of red energy move faster than light speed. This has several cool-looking but scientifically unfortunate outcomes. 1. When sad nice people are huddled on one of the doomed planets, they see the redness approaching. Well, how, exactly? Whatever light the super-fast red blob gives off would not move faster than light, so the blob would just arrive, you know, without any advance notice. (But the CGI would be easier that way.) 2. (One of my fave visuals from the whole movie) When Kylo helmet wimp guy is standing on the bridge of some ship, he watches the red death sludge move across the galaxy toward the doomed planets. That's awesome, but like you said, it would be taking YEARS for the light from the sludge to reach him visually. It would be a very odd resulting effect since the first light to reach him would be from when the sludge was at its point of closest approach. So he would probably see the middle of the beam first and then watch the rest of it form, over the course of hundreds of years of him standing on the damn bridge. LOL. But I loved it all. I used the force to get past all the science stuff.
By the way, without spoiling anything, I found all the name similarity to be really annoying. It's even annoying in this thread as we try to talk about three main characters who have incredibly similar sounding short names. WTF. Ren, Rey, Fen, and all we need is Fey in the combinatorics. Geez. But I actually loved all the new characters. Just griping about a writing 101 point of not having all your characters sound like the same word.
One of the most genius moves in the franchise history was to put "junk" in space. Maybe that was more mechanical than science, but they got it right. I remember seeing the first millennium falcon toy and thinking the detail on that toy was awesome. I'm in. And then twenty years later when I looked at the first space ship to land on the moon, and thought it was ridiculous that something made of junk and tin foil could make it to the moon, but it reminded me that Star Wars got it. Science channel also liked their use of the force. And although I think their intent there was to mix in faith with science, it ironically may be one of the more interesting scientific principles that was considered unreal and turned out to be real. All that to say you just never know. What may not seem scientifically accurate more often then not proves to be accurate. My own personal story on this matter was in 1991 when I forgot to read the chapter on Pheromones. So on my returned test the college professor marked in red ink that "Humans do not have pheromones you idiot." Well, I just didn't read the chapter. It was animals. But as it turns out, seems like I might have gotten that answer correct after all. Science has a way of making us all look foolish.
Recently saw it again at a theater with reclining chairs. Those are awesome. What theaters in Houston have those? What used to be two rows of seats, is now like a mini luxury box with just one row of recliners with buttons for your foot rest. There are walls between each luxury box. Expensive, because there are much less seats per screen, but I'll do that again for next big visual blockbuster.
Sorry bro, i totally forgot where i read this. I like the idea though. Hell, might have been a clutchfans members theory. Truly don't remember.
fwiw: I was going with Finn as the spelling, from Finnegan. But maybe that's the Irish in me to favor that spelling. It means "Fair." btw: was Finn on Star Trek "Fair" He seemed to fight fair like Irish do, but Kirk hated him. <img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ae/c4/c7/aec4c76369bf87b150509833833c0f43.jpg"[/IMG] Is "Fen" correct? Or is it just the way we spell it here?
Yes, IIRC the theory is that Rey will become a 'Grey' Jedi. I think it is centered around Finn being the good Jedi. Ren will be the evil jedi. At least I think that's the theory that has been thrown about. Or Ren could swing back to the middle while Rey is the one that falls completely. I do think there are some pretty strong hints at Finn being force sensitive. I do think this would be a cool direction since it would be something different and there is a ton of lore already about Grey Jedi and it would be cool to see it in a movie.
So...I havent watched any of the Star Wars ever...and went on a binge watching episode 4-6 two nights before and watched 1-3 yesterday night. Cool stuff...gonna watch episode 7 tom
[Noooooooo! meme] omg, that would be bad. Let's just have all the characters gain the Force. No need for commoners like Han Solo, anymore. "Grey" side of the Force. sigh. I guess that's needed to explain how a girl with a lot of hate can summon the Force with just one tip from Edna Mode. btw: what "pretty strong hints at Finn being force sensitive" did people see?
I didn't see the hints at Finn being force sensitive either. Though we don't know anything about his past or where he came from, so there's mystery there. So...how bout them rumors that Finn and Poe are going to be gay lovers? Can't let the black or latin man get with Rey, nope. She's a sweet white girl. We can have diversity, but i just don't think were ready for interracial love in Star Wars. Let's just make the 2 minorities have butt secks with each other. Problem solved.
The sex between Darkie and Whitey forces would create a Grey Jedi, though, amirite. The Finn is gay rumors bantered about because of the Ellen interview must be centered on the one line Finn asks Rey about her home planet "Do you have a boyfriend. Is he cute."
It wouldn't be all the characters, just the main ones. The hints for Finn are out there. -He's the only one to break conditioning. This is one of the weak hints, it could just be that he's just a good guy and realized the First Order was evil. - Few scenes later Kylo Ren seems to notice him. They have their first little stare down moment. - Maz Kanata is force-sensitive. So why is she giving him a lightsaber to go save his friends? Not only that, she senses something in him. She senses fear. That's pretty strong wording especially since she gets all into his face about it. - Fighting with a light-saber is usually something left for force sensitive. He should not have lasted 3 seconds with Kylo Ren as a lightsaber battle is based on precognition. He should not have even been able to land a hit on him. - One of the ones people always point to is that Snoke says there has been an awakening before Rey even realizes she has powers. Who knows what he's talking about here honestly. I think personally it means simply that the Force is being awakened and so there will be an influx of force users. - Finn also feels the deaths of others when the star killer does that thing that it does. He's the first one to even realize it. I think the biggest hint is Maz Kanata.
The Cinemark in Rosenberg has Leather, electronic reclining chairs. Also that one in RiverOaks(?) or Galleria....itheater or something like that. http://www.cinemark.com/luxury-loungers.aspx
I dunno, imo, all those points are a bit of a stretch. At no point did I feel Finn was strong with the Force. I doubt he's the first one to break conditioning. When Phasma tells General Hux she sent him to reconditioning, I got the impression that this is not an uncommon occurrence with their stormtroopers. Maz Kanata is force sensitive but also old and wise. Her eyes quote to Finn didn't necessarily have anything to do with the Force, but rather how he needs to stand up and fight instead of running from the First Order. That's the fear she alluded to; it's different than what we hear regarding Annakin and later Luke in the other trilogies. The lightsaber thing I think is way overblown. Based purely on the movies, Obi Wan tells us lightsabers were "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age." Sure they are incredibly difficult to wield effectively. Doesn't mean normal people can't or won't use them. And doesn't mean normal people would instantly chop off a limb trying to use one either. And Finn is a trained stormtrooper, so any CQC training he received would probably help a little. Plus he was fighting a mortally wounded, emotionally clouded Ren. Ren was just toying with him at first, until Finn damaged him. Then he cut him down with ease. Maz doesn't give the lightsaber to him like she does Rey. And when he's frantically calling out for a weapon, Maz has to remind him that he has one. I see that moment, not as you're strong with the force so use this lightsaber, but rather you got a lighstaber in your possession so use the damn thing! I think its pretty obvious Snoke's comment about an awakening was related to Rey. Doesn't matter if she knew she was strong in the Force yet, because we knew. And when Starkiller based destroyed the Hosnian system, I never saw any Force-sensitive moment like we've seen from Leia (when she felt Luke in the OT and Han in this one). He saw the planets being destroyed, knew it was from Starkiller and hence knew everybody was in deep trouble. Maybe Finn is a bit force-sensitive and learns to use it to some extent. But honestly, if he turns Jedi like what seems inevitable for Rey, I feel like it's going to seriously minimize the emotional impact of the final scene between Finn, Kylo and Rey. That scene right there should be plenty obvious that Rey is the chosen one, not Finn..and that Finn will make his mark but not necessarily through the force. I see Finn taking on more of the Han Solo role. From this movie, it's clear he didn't know much about the Force and thought it to be something of a myth. He's reluctant to help the Resistance and would rather focus on his own self-preservation, only to return and help his friends in the end. He's got a bit of humorous side and he's good with a blaster. All qualities Han Solo possesses. Course I hope they don't just mirror Han Solo, and Finn is allowed to stand on his own. But that's the path I see him taking, becoming a strong fighter in the Resistance, but not really a Jedi or anything.
Spoiler I for one welcome the new angst-ridden, goth-like Chewbaca in episode VIII. Putting up Joy Division posters in the Millennium Falcon. Gonna be great.
Also the last thing I'll say about it is this is actually on the official site... and from the visual dictionary... So yeah, I think the whole awakening is a hint hint that Rey is not the only one having her awakening. If she isn't, then why have it play out exactly the same for whoever else it may be?
