I managed to slog through the website issues to snag some very good seats on opening night at Santikos in Richmond - no way I would attempt that at a theater without assigned seating! Looks like a lot of people gave up due to the technical difficulties. It's the first SW I'll see in a theater with my 3 kids. I'm not sure who is more excited ... actually, I am sure - it's my wife!
http://www.lfexaminer.com/theaUSA.htm#TX No 70mm IMAX in Houston, unfortunately, but is it going to be worth it for this film anyway? I could just go to my local theater or there are couple 70mm theaters each about 45 min from me.
I wonder if the music in the trailer is actually from the soundtrack.. still poignant piano strains are NOT what we are used to hearing from Williams in a Star Wars soundtrack.. I liked it though.. just wondering is all. Usually it's all strings and brass, which I have always loved, just perfect soundtracks in my opinion.. but it's nice to hear something different.
IMAX 3D only, so ***** that noise. Oh well, I'll be out of country till then and looks like I can't reserve tickets there this far ahead. AVX ATMOS please.
I think RedRedemption mentioned the Bob Bullock IMAX in Austin, and I am planning on seeing it there as well. If not, then Alamo Drafthouse for sure.
Regardless of how the actual movie turns out, this has been the most effective hype job I have ever seen. As a huge Star Wars fan, after the prequels were a letdown (although I liked them more than most) and the obvious Disney cash grab, I was fairly cold on this movie. I wanted to see it, but I wasn't exactly counting down the days. But at this point, I'm foaming at the mouth. I really want to see this, and will be there on opening day. And best of all, I have no clue what the plot entails, which is uncharted territory for a Star Wars movie.
Evil dark side Jedi wants to take over, the black dude is new jedi knight and he stops them. It probably follows the "Hero's Journey" narrative. They added a female lead for more pc times. Maybe she is really the jedi.
Pretty sweet trailer. I loved Han saying "it's true....all of it." I will probably wait a few weeks to see it with my boys. But they're PUMPED. They both want to be Darth Vader for Halloween. I'm sure the first week is just going to be a madhouse at every theater. Okay, off to watch that trailer 20 more times....
skeptical of Harrison Ford reminiscent of the fan servicing with Leonard Nimoy in the mediocre Star Trek films, relying on nostalgia for feels
The only Star Wars movie I thought was really good was Empire Strikes Back. The other two in the first series were just okay and the prequels were awful. This one does look nice. I hope it lives up to the hype.
Anyone else here see all 6 movies in the theater during the original theatrical runs? My first memory of going to the movies was A New Hope.
Dude, go to the drafthouse website and secure tickets now, come on!!!! You get merch like magazine and glassware!!!
I did. I say this all the time and my wife just laughs at me, but seeing A New Hope in the theater for the first time as an 7 year old kid was LITERALLY a life-changing experience for me. The amount of times you had seen Star Wars was a badge of honor as a kid. I seem to remember getting close to 20 before Empire came out. My dad would take me to see it every weekend. I couldn't get enough.
Yep. Saw "A New Hope" with my parents at Town & Country 6. I remembering my Dad saying, "May the Force be with you" in the car on the way home. I was about 3...very early memory, and easily my first memory of going to a movie. I can also remember playing outside and my dad opening the door to say we were going to see Empire Strikes Back that night. Fantastic. Only one I got to see with any of my kids in the theater was Revenge of the Sith...saw that at the theater at the Marq'E with my wife and older son. Really looking forward to seeing these with both of my sons. My older son has already been texting me today trying to coordinate when his basketball games will be and when we can go.
