I had no problem with the first two movies, they are solid. It just so happened that they effed everything up so horribly in the 3rd movie. Emo Peter, too many villains etc. ruined the movie. Spider-Man 3 should have been all about the Sandman, closing the Harry vs. Peter story, and Peter struggling with the symbiote. Instead, we got all that, plus Venom was added in for the final 30 minutes, when by all accounts he is the most popular villain in the series. We barely got to see him at all, where is the scene where Venom chases Spider-Man through New York on his web? How cool would it have been to have the final scene in Spiderman 3 the scene with Peter in the church trying to get rid of the symbiote? The final thing we see is the symbiote latching itself to Eddie Brock. Spider-Man 4 could have been all about Venom. Let's hope then that the series reboot gets it right, and we see a legitimate Venom somewhere down the line.
Totally totally agreed. Gwen Stacey was Peter's true first love and it was also her death that make Peter/Spiderman love life totally unique. I was totally pissed off when Raimi erased her out of the movie. I think it is too early for a reboot. I think they should leave it a lone for another 5 years before bringing it back. I'm in no hurry to see another Spiderman movie. I'm just freaking scare that they might turn this into a stupid teenage spidey movie.
I don't think anything's canon anymore. FWIW, Venom was originally intended to be a woman who had a miscarriage after seeing her husband become collateral damage in a super-hero battle, IIRC... An editor nixed that idea and they came up with Eddie Brock. Not only was Brock not in the original concept, he wasn't intended to be the permanent holder of the symbiote either, they were going to kill him off and have the alien drift around and bond with other villains (which given Spidey's rogue's gallery, could have been the greatest comics gimmick of all time), but he became too popular.
Yeah, I'd heard that. Personally I thought they could just skip Eddie/pregnant chick altogether and go straight to the symbiote/villain team up of the week formula. Would have been fun. Though I get the feeling we would have still gotten Carnage's terrible arc eventually, anyway. I doubt the writers would have been able to think of enough ways for Spidey to win every few weeks though. He'd probably have wound up teaming up with the Human Torch or going to the Baxter building to get Reed's sonic disruptor every other issue (which he kinda wound up doing with Venom anyway).
Thats literally exactly what I expected. idk How anyone can possibly have messed that up. That was a great episode from the Spiderman series that came on Saturdays on Fox.
I always felt that Tobey Maguire was terrible as Spiderman. I wouldnt mind seeing them wipe the slate clean.
I kind of likes the first two when the first came out but I don't think they held up very well at all. Batman, Iron Man, and Star Trek seemed to destroy therm.
i didn't realize how many actually hated the current movies. i guess that is why they did so well at the box office...cause people hated it so much.
I agree with killing off Maguire as Spider-Man, but maybe 2012 is too soon to reboot back to his teenage years.
right on the money. The movie had som much potential it just tried to do too much. I always wondered if Sam wasn't sure that they would do another and felt the need to squeeze a bunch in. Unfortunate, because Raimi is so good. i thought he did a great job as spiderman and more importantly, peter parker.
Teenage anything is just stupid. Thanks Disney. Actually its not even their fault for buying Marvel. God I hope the Kirby's win the rights to Spiderman and X-Men before any of these teenage movies come out.
Oh, give me a break. Making good money at the box office doesn't always mean it's a good movie. I can name alot of movies that makes lots of money and they are pure crap. It's not that people hated Spider-Man, It just that it could've been better. Right now the first 3 Spider-Man is so outdated and forgettable and it's not even a decade yet. The first 2 Superman held up pretty well. I even say the first Batman held up pretty well also even though it's cheesy. X2: X-Men United also held up pretty well and deservedly so. Didn't really care much for Iron Man. Visually cool but totally forgettable. I even dare to say the first 2 Spider-Man story is superior to Iron Man.
you are underrating spiderman. The first 2 are still very good...im not sure what you mean by "outdated" and "forgettable".
THe story was well told. The SFX are totally outdated. The actors who are playing the main role making the movie very forgettable. They just didn't fit the role well at all. For example. Conan the Barbarian would considered a forgettable movie but it's the ICONIC Arnold fit the role perfectly making it a classic and memorable movie. Same goes with Christopher Reeves as Superman.
the graphics are a bit cartoony at times (somewhat intentional i think) but they arent ridiculously bad. I still think Toby did a great job as Spiderman. Will he always be considered spiderman when people see him? Probably not, because hes had so many other good characters and roles, but moving forward i think people will compare future spidermans to him much like they do with Reeves and Keaton with superman & batman respectively. ALso, William Dafoe and Alfred Molina both put up fantastic performances that I can still vividly remember.
by all means, name these movies that made spiderman money and were noted as pure crap. i'm interested to know what they are. i guess you are going to start with "avatar"...huh? animated don't count, either.
