Seriously? Nic Cage? I liked him when I was young but he kinda blows now. Yeah the movies he chooses dont help but seriously Nic Cage? I didnt like Leo until I saw The Beach and that changed my opinion of him. Good Movie.
One of the greatest movies I have ever seen. the two female friends I was with fell asleep half way through the movie and thought I was crazy for absolutely loving it, but it was this good. Holy crap Scorcese is a genius. And for the record, if you hate Leo, this WILL change your opinion of him. The dude owned this role, absolutely brilliant. They obviously made him put on some weight and the facial hair helped in making him PERFECT for this role. wow
Even though this Nick LeSalle character whose review the Houston paper reprinted from a *San Francisco* rag is a certified douche, he was right about one thing: this movie feels less like a Scorcese movie and more like a Shamyalamalalami movie. The reviews which have been positive have said that it must be seen multiple times, and while I agree with that, in that it is going to turn out to be re-watchable in the same vein as a Sixth Sense, I am not going to go pay ten bucks to see it again in the theater. Blu-Ray when it comes out, sure, probably many times over. I believe I caught all of the little 'clues' as they happened, and can remember them well enough without having to go back and watch it again. Won't get into any spoilers right now, so I will just say, it's very very good, it's the 'big twist' typeof movie, although the twist was sort-of not totally out of left field, as some of the clues were pretty obvious. Go see it. And congratulate me, my wife wanted me to take her to see Valentine's Day last night, but changed her mind at the last minute. Whew.
Yeah I was operating on very little sleep when I typed that. I meant to say DiCaprio when talking about Titanic.
DiCaprio has become a much better actor than his early years. The roles he played lately have been brilliant. Sooner or later he will win an Oscar.
I guessed the ending half way through. I go into these types of movies expecting things aren't what they seem and more often then not, I'm right. It's due to the "Usual Suspect" effect. Spoiler At first I thought the twist could have been the government setting Teddy up, but they talked about it too early. About half way through, I suspected he was the 67th patient and that he killed his wife.
If you catch "Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans" it will change your mind. The movie was the among the best of 2009. He needed a paycheck here and there over the last decade, but the man can act.
Spoiler I was really excited about this movie, but I really didn't enjoy that much. I thought the twist would be something less obvious, or that once they revealed the twist they would introduce a second twist that left you going "wtf!?" as you walked out of the theater. A solid movie, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece by any stretch.
Spoiler yeah it was too obvious when they were at the lighthouse, but at the end of the movie, they allowed us to speculate whether he gave up and resigned to the fact he'll never be let off the island; or they were role playing again... either way, definitely not the greatest movie ever as some have stated, but it wasnt bad at all although i didnt enjoy the creepy recall scenes
Spoiler I don't think they left it open to speculation at all, personally. The warden said that if the role-playing experiment didn't work, then they'd be forced to take actions that would ensure that Teddy never hurt anyone again. When he tells Chuck "they'll never catch us" and then Chuck looks toward the warden and shakes his head to say "no"...well that was the indicator that Teddy had failed the test and was off to the lighthouse.
There are way too many clues throughout the movie for me to even consider the twist a twist. I speculated the ending when he was interviewing the lady who wrote in his notebook. It's a good movie and plenty entertaining, but not great.
Spoiler Teddy is cured at the end. He knows what he did, But He can't live the rest of his life knowing that he killed his wife . So he fakes having a relapse. That way the doctors would lobotomize him, and he would forget about his dark past.
Spoiler I don't doubt that, which explains the remark he makes to Chuck about living as a monster or dieing as a good man. But, I don't think anyone else was putting on a show at that point, which is what I thought Royals Ego was suggesting.
