i know i'm going a different route, but as a father there isn't a more painful seen then the train scene in Sophie's Choice... i won't spoil it if you haven't seen it.
Same here. I'm in total agreement. It's hard for me to watch not only because it's painful to see it slowly going in, but also because you're so mad at that other loser for just standing around the corner and pissing his pants.
The final scene in Braveheart: I could stomach the "drawn," but closed my eyes for the "quartered." D R
nothing, i have never had a hard time viewing anything. i could sit through the most brutal and violent and shockings scenes through any movie. i sat through Men Behind the Sun, Visitor Q and SALO without even making a sound. SALO of course was the biggest disappointment, Visitor Q was funny though. Anyway, my girl could barely watch the scene in Saw 2 when the girl gets dropped into that pit with all the needles. and she had nightmares after watching the exorcism of emily rose.
oh wait actually there was a part during Farenheit 911 where i had to stop watching it, cuz i almost broke into tears. It was the part where they showed the mothers crying becuz the US had bombed some area and killed her kids and she was flippin out. It was horrible, i had to stop the movie. i didnt even finish it. I guess its different when you arent watching a ficticious movie.
I thought the rough part of that flick was the wounded American soldiers. "Basically it feels like I still got legs... an' they're bein' crushed in a vice. The drugs help a lot." Not gonna forget that quote anytime soon. I felt basically every negative emotion possible watching that part. Kudos to pgab for reminding me about the Melfi-rape on Sorpranos. That was shocking as hell and I was so pissed at the show that I almost stopped following it because they didn't earn the right to make us watch that by going anywhere with it. After maybe two more episodes, this brutal rape is never mentioned again and Melfi is totally back to normal. WTF? The pool cue beating in "Deep Cover" was out there, too, but I've seen it about 50 times now so it has little impact left. Sure is an intense movie, though, one of my faves.
anyone seen a movie called "the notebook" not violent in anyway. not necessarily hard 2 watch. Just hard 2 stomach. that said, its something everyone should see. and yes it may seem a bit cheesy or whatever at first glance - but its message about life should put your priorities in order pretty darn quick.
The only movie I've ever rented that I didn't finish was Natural Born Killers. It was partly the violence, but mostly just because that movie was weird. I can't remember exactly what finally made me turn it off, but I have no desire to ever see any part of that movie again. I'm kind of surprised nobody else has mentioned it. The only movie I've ever walked out of and asked for my money back was The Royal Tenenbaums. With the people I know, there was no middle ground on that movie. You either loved it or hated it. I hated it. Thought it was stupid, not that it made me squemish like most of the other movies/scenes mentioned in this thread.
I remember seeing the sledgehammer scene in commercials and you know what's coming. So I go and read the book, which is just hilarious I think,really really dark humor, and I'm thinking where's the sledgehammer?? In the book she uses an axe and blowtorch. Later I heard that the sledgehammer was Bates idea. That was the only thing better than the book. The movie was good but the book was waaaayyy better. Another gruesome scene was towards the end of Event Horizon. It was really brief but it looked nasty.
Once were Warriors--just hard to watch all together. And definately the Curb Sandwich in AHX. I remember watching Misery for the first time when i was around 9, i walked out just before the sledgehammer scene. Took about 14 years to finish it, i still look away though. They've all been mentioned here though, has anyone seen the scene "irreversible" i hear thats hard to take as well. And basically any scene with Keanu Reeves in Dracula. Just painful.
