so all these Saw movies don't suck? i just assumed they did so i've never gone to see any of them. i couldn't believe there was already a Saw III when i saw the commercial for it a few weeks ago. can i assume that it's the type of movie where not seeing the first two wouldn't really matter too much in terms of seeing this one?

and are the movies more just gory than scary?

You have to see the first two or you will be pretty lost. That's what makes Saw good, there is actually a pretty interesting plot to it. It's not just blood and gore and that's it.

I hate, absolutely HATE, all of these so called "horror" movies that are just purely cheesy. I watched Hostel and thought it was one of the worst things I have ever seen. The Saw series is up there with the Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal in my mind.

And yes, they are much more gory than scary. Be prepared if you are squeamish.

I liked the first 2 better than this 3rd one.

For one, I thought the story in this one was a little too focused on one thing.

Like in Saw II, they were focused on getting out of the house, finding the woman, finding the guy behind all of it, etc. (if I'm remembering right). This one didn't have enough to the story I don't think.

I heard the 3rd had a new director. I thought you could really kinda tell. The lighting wasn't great most of the time (purposely I guess, but I didn't like it).

And in the first 2 movies, you really got a feeling for everything in whatever room they were filming...and why people felt so trapped in their situations. It made things more scary to me.. in this one, I didn't get the same feelings. Not enough detail and poor choice of views of the rooms generally

For example, in the scene with the frozen person, you only saw the center of the room with her...and then it flashed to the pipes and the key and that stuff. Back and forth. Never any feeling for how the 2 were spaced in the room. Plus the whole room was pretty dark.

All that being said... it was still worth watching ;) I enjoyed it--just not as much as the first two.

James Wan directed the first one. The last 2 were both directed by Darren Lynn Bousman.

I think I got desensitized to the gore. I squirmed a little at Wahlberg's thing and for chainman. But after that I think I relaxed. The other "tests" and the surgery didn't bother me at all.

    Jeff is a freakin' douche.

I'm sorry that the doctor had to die 'cause this d******d didn't learn his lesson.

I didnt think it was quite as good as the first 2 either.
But I disagree with you on the lack of story. i think there was more story in this one than the others. It explains the deaths from the first two movies and is a little more complicated. When I talked to people who had already seen the movie, the ones who didnt like it said that the deaths were not as good or creative. But, that is not the case. they are less creative and solvable becaus eJigsaw did not create them, the girl did. i thought it was pretty interesting, although not as good as the first two

I kind of disagree with you there; I think Jigsaw had a hand in all the games (she was his apprentice after all, not the other way around), but Amanda I felt betrayed him when she didn't allow the possibility for them to live if they passed the test. She violated the rules of the game, and he knew that; which is why he created that "final" test for her. I also felt the games were just as good as the ones in the first two movies, and there were MORE of them. Maybe they weren't as elaborate, but I didn't mind. I think the one game that still makes me cringe even now is that hypodermic needle one.

Same here with the needles but
I think she did have some hand in the deaths. Like when the girl cop from the 2nd movie was being killed in the new one. I thought that was a good death, (possibly thought of by Jigsaw), but she must have put these traps together because she didnt allow anyone to escape

    Exactly...which is why I said

Even though he probably concocted each of the games, Amanda more than likely carried out his design, because in some of those cases (the chain guy, Kerry (the cop) and I think even the driver that killed Jeff's son) the subjects had no chance for survival. Jigsaw knew it as well cause he told her she violated the rules of the game when she didn't allow the subjects to learn their lesson and go free

Is it true that they signed on the guy that is playing JigSaw to a 3 movie deal. I heard they were going to be a prequel to the Saw series. Could be interesting. As long as the third Saw is profitable I have no reason to believe they would not continue the series.

I feel bad for the guys daughter at the end...

    Bump

I felt sorry for the girl too. The ending was kind of silly . How could Jigsaw press play on the recorder?

For the most part the whole series is kinda of dumb to me. Where the hell were they to do all these atrocities and get all those machines. How could they just pluck people from their regular life AND have all their information.
Did Jigsaw hire MSNBC to investigate for him???

This series is no where near Silence of the Lambs.

Im about 9 months late on this, but I hope you watched the first two before watching the third.

Saw IV is coming out some time in October and I believe it is the last one...unless they decide to add prequels to the Saw series at a later date.

I think this series as a whole was better than the entire Silence of the Lambe Series. Silence of the lambs was good but Hannibal and others sucked.

Saw 4 is coming around halloween, but it is not the last one. There will be 3 more Saw movies and they will all be prequals.

I thought IV (and all subsequent Saws) was a prequel.

Saw IV is a prequel...as are the others...they kind of have to be.

But without the original creators on board I'm skeptical...seems like the series had run its course.

No, Saw IV is not a prequel...its about Jeff trying to escape the building alive, with his daughter.

Then that must be new because I've seen a lot of articles saying that there is for sure gonna be 6 Saw movies and the next 3 will all be sequals. How could they continue from the last movie, everyone was dead
