kind of what justtxy said. Kind of ethical. They certainly seemed to have a warrior/hunters code of sorts.

and yes, the alien v predator requiem was pathetic. No type of orginal thought went into that turd of a script

That was something I wished they would have explored further...perhaps one of the best elements of the Predator mythology. I almost felt after watching the first two films that the Predators weren't merely animalistic hunters, but were rather creatures that attacked those that posed a threat to them or others. Course the series seemed to go in another direction, but I don't consider the AvP films to even exist.

The Yakuza was Focking awesome!!!! Kind of confuse on why they put him in the movie, I mean everybody look like mercenaries and out of left field the filmmakers decided to throw in a Yakuza character...

I'm not sure if your going by 4 or 5 stars scale......Just make it easy and go with the Robocop scale. Was it Robocop 2 or Robocop 3?

Didn't something similar happen in Predator 2? With Danny Glover's character.

I enjoyed it. It's the second best predator movie. However, going from buff Arnold to a lanky pianist just isn't right. The Rock would be better, if only he can act.

IIRC, in Predator 2.....isn't there a scene with a guy banging a chick and they get butchered? I could be wrong being it has been a lifetime ago since I seen #2.......but it stuck out after reading your post....

I am amped to see this flick.....anything to wash the nasty taste of AVP out of my mind.....glad it is getting soild reviews.....

    Whaaaaat? Lol

Posed a threat to them and others? They killed police officers, FBI agents, army rangers, civilians, etc. It was sport for them, and what they hunted generally posed little threat to them as they were invisible and used freaking lasers lol.

I think the Predators had some pretty questionable ethics. Generally it seemed like they wouldn't kill anyone if there wasn't at least some level of threat. Consider hunting soldiers and cops is like humans hunting bucks. We have blinds and rifles but if we screw up a buck can gore us with its antlers or hooves. We generally don't bother with does or fawns as there is no challenge to it.

Also if there is a Predator ethic its pretty inconsistent. For instant at the end of Predator I the Predator nukes himself and tries to take Arnold with him when he loses while at the end of Predator II the Predators reward Danny Danny Glover when he defeats one of their own.

Then again like humans its possible there are honorable Predators and sore loser Predators.

FYI haven't seen the movie yet but might catch a matinee or when it makes it to cheap cinema.

If I remember it correctly the Predator leaves the chick alone and kills the drug lord only after he has grabbed a weapon.

The reviews I've seen are very mixed with a few panning it.

The Predator in the second film tries to do the same thing at the top of the warehouse but instead got his arm chopped off when Glover gets ahold of his saw-disk-thingy.

Just saw it. I'll give it a B. Definitely worth a watch if you're an action fan.

They only killed people that had weapons; in other words people who posed a threat. Not once do I recall the predators going after innocents. There were a number scenes that really made me think from those first two films...how he didn't kill the woman in the first, the one that was pregnant in the second, how he targeted the drug lords. Sure he killed "good guys" too (soldiers, cops, etc), but, in war, the line between good and bad can and often does become blurred. I'm just saying it would have been interesting for the films to explore the predator mythology a bit more...perhaps there was more to them than simply barbaric hunting. It very well could have been turned in a film exploring our fascination with violence and weaponry and war. That maybe they saw us a primitive species bent toward destruction, and were simply trying trying to "teach" humanity the perils of needless violence.

And if I'm trying to look to deep into it, they could have at least touched on the fact that the Predators didn't kill unharmed humans.

    ---

I'd give the new one though...probably a 5/10. It was ok, but they were many elements that just didn't work. Adrien Brody's tough guy act was annoying...think Christian Bale's raspy Batman voice. Topher Grace was completely out of place and is a one-note actor...he doesn't know how to turn off the sarcastic, smart-ass switch from That 70's Show.

I wasn't completely sucked into the environment either; I don't know too much about the film other than it was produced by Robert Rodriguez, who's from Austin if I'm not mistaken. And I could swear some of the sets were of the hill country...one scene looked eerily similar to Pedernales Falls SP.

Danny Trejo seemed out of place as well. The dialogue and story was pretty formulaic. And it just didn't seem to have the subtle buildup that the original had...so yeah it doesn't hold a candle to the first. It was ok, but I wouldn't watch it again.
