Can you name a super hero movie where rebuilding the epic damage done by the battle between the superhero(es) and the villain(s) is a main point in closing the movie? Not to mention, we don't even know how long it was between the battle with Zod and his first day of work was much less if it is even in the same area of the city. I've never seen a superhero movie where fans are as critical of minor plot points and as MOS. The movie was actually much, much tighter all-around with fewer "come on now!?" moments than the vast majority of movies in the genre.
I think most are upset that Superman was made too look like hehas such poor hygiene.... the man clearly hasn't washed his suit since the 70's....
Look, I'm as big a fan of science fiction, fantasy, and "super hero" flicks as anyone out there, but the way that was handled was incredibly abrupt to the point of absurdity. They could have inserted something to show "time passes," a character mentioning the rebuilding effort just completed, or perhaps a brief 30 second montage of the city being rebuilt, without harming the flow one damn bit, and it would have been a far better ending, in my humble opinion. I wasn't the only person who found the sudden return of a pristine Metropolis bizarre. Three or four friends said the same thing. I actually thought much of the film was quite well done, just not the second half of the movie. The fellow playing Superman was very good, with only an odd "puckered lip" here and there bugging me a little. Heck, I watched the thing again the other night on HBO and enjoyed it. The plethora of Spiderman flicks haven't inspired me to watch them again on cable. The Iron Man films? Hell yeah! I love Robert Downey Jr. in that role, and The Thin Blonde as Pepper Potts. Iron Man was never one of my favorite comic book characters, but he's one of my favorite superheros, thanks to Downey, Jr., along some excellent writing and directing.
I've noticed that so many movie threads become about Man of Steel. Such a divisive film. At least it has that going, lots of discussion over it even so long after it. I know the DVD BluRay sales were huge for it. I'd agree though, I love watching the first half (I own it), including the smallville fight (one of the best CBM action pieces imo), but then once the world engine gets involved, it just becomes overwhelming. Still enjoyed it. Back to Noah...one of the few things I didn't enjoy about the film was noah's transition from nice, caring individual to crazy demented murderer. Sort of came out of nowhere. Very little development in that sense. I didn't mind too much though, it got us to where the movie wanted us to be
I must say that I did not enjoy the first half of the movie. That being said, the second half (after Noah's transition) made me look back and realize that the first half wasn't so bad. Absolutely ridiculous take on his character. It made no sense.
It's not a big point but in The Watchmen they did show NYC being rebuilt at the end. It is a minor point but all the work is being done by Veidt Industries to show how Adrian Veidt is actually literally rebuilding the world out of the ashes of the damage that he caused. [edit]Also just remembered Avengers also had some scenes at the end showing the aftermath in NYC of the Chitari invasion. That is the point though. Almost all superhero movies have things that don't make sense. That is what suspension of disbelief is. The really good ones you don't care about small things but in movies that aren't those things become glaring. I didn't think Man of Steel was garbage but I certainly had several "come on now!?" moments because the plot and acting weren't enough to suck me into it where I could just suspend disbelief.
On the main topic haven't seen Noah and no plans on doing so. It seems like it came and went. On a related subject whatever happened to Keanu Reeves 47 Ronin? That also seemed to come and go pretty quickly. I guess Keanu and Russell can commiserate about their big budget flops.
Saw the movie yesterday, thought it was pretty good. Would recommend. Those badass beaches at the end are in Iceland for anybody who was curious.
