What are the extended times per film and does it really make that much difference?

you can look it up but on avg each film got about 40mins of extra footage.

It doesnt make a huge difference to the overall story (ring gets destrotyed, sorry for spoiling that for those who havent seen the movie ;)) But it does add some explanation. Some scenes I liked is it shows how they got their rope, cloak, sword, etc in the first one. Some extended scenes of Sauramon dying. Only scene I didnt like and everyone hated was the stupid scene of the Witch King defeating Gandolf

You know, not everyone has read the books (multiple times, in my case), or seen the original flims. That's why we have the spoiler tags.

Extended editions are great, though to be honest if they cut a few of RotK's 15 endings I wouldn't mind.

It's roughly 30 mins extra for the 1st, 40 for the 2nd, and 50 for the 3rd, IIRC. So overall a solid 2 hours extra.

Regarding how it affected the films overall... in my humblest of opinions, the 1st movie was paced better without the extra content, though the extra stuff is still cool to see in itself. The 2nd movie was GREATLY helped by the extra content. The 3rd movie I felt like it didn't make it better nor worse.

It seems like everyone always says this, but I thoroughly disagree with the sentiment that the ending was too drawn out and/or that there were "too many" endings.

I mean really, it's not 3 movies, it's one 10-hour epic. Something like that *should* have a ton of a wrap-up.

In fact, I think endings in film, and even moreso in books, tend to be way under-done these days. I always find it interesting to see what really happens to characters, as opposed to, "well, we saved the world... the end!"

I didn't think it translated well to the film. Wasn't so much that it needed to be wrapped up, just that it was very drawn out in doing so. Really distracted from the film for me, unfortunately.
