Lady is a dud... this weekend turned out pretty much how I expected. I'm looking forward to seeing Monster House. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co.'s "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" logged a third weekend as the most popular movie in North America while the latest films from directors M. Night Shyamalan and Ivan Reitman both bombed, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday. The monster swashbuckler "Pirates" earned $35 million, comfortably ahead of Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news).'s animated creepfest "Monster House," which exceeded expectations with a $23 million debut. Shyamalan's mystical fantasy "Lady in the Water" followed at No. 3 with $18.2 million, while Reitman's romantic comedy "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" was No. 7 with $8.7 million. A fourth new release, director Kevin Smith's "Clerks II" was No. 6 with $9.6 million, broadly in line with expectations. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060723/film_nm/leisure_boxoffice_dc
I'd like to see him do something fresh, get away from the thrillers and see what he can do with someone else's material. Just focus on directing.
i can understand people tryin to backup signs and unbreakable as decent m.knight movies, but no one can possibly back up the village. that has to be one of the top 3 worst movies of all time. I cant believe he's allowed to make a movie after that piece of crap. utter rubbish. i have never been so p*ssed off after watching a movie, no one in my family utters his name around me coz i've been prone to frothing at the mouth and speaking in toungues everytime i hear his name. seriously , i will never ever pay to see another of his movies. as was said b4, 6th sense>unbreakable>signs>the village+total ****e.
The village had a ton of potential to be great and who knows maybe it might have been. But everyone and I mean everyone was watching and waiting for the big twist, that for the most part we ignored much of the movie. If someone knew absolutely nothing about M Night's movie's, then I bet they might have thought it was pretty decent.
It has been a looong time since I saw the village, but I thought the twist with the land preserve was awesome. The twist before that was very predictable.
In other words 10 year olds will love it, anyone over 13 will be bored to tears. Oh and M.Knight needs to check himself bigtime before he does something dumb[er]... i.e isolate himself and then make a movie. See Kubrick, Stanley and "Eyes Wide Shut".
so did anyone else notice the boom mics in alot of scenes...the people i went to see the movie with pointed out the mics at the top of the frames and from that point on it was noticable and painful to watch...i felt bad for m night.. (if someone has already pointed this out in this thread i apologize...im still a rook)
That movie was not bad. I mean it was no sixth sense or anything but I thought it was worth 8 bucks and two hours of my time. On a side note, I hate dumbasses who bring their 4 and 5 year olds to horror movies. Be an adult and either find a sitter or see a movie they won't be scared in. Or better yet, don't have kids out at 10pm
This was M. Knight's worst movie thus far...I was disappointed, but that's maybe because I expected a twist and didn't get one...I wouldn't recommend it and everybody was talking about the boom mics as well.
I finally watched this movie tonight and I loved it. Absolutely loved it. In fact, it might be MNS's best flick, IMO. I need to chew on it for a couple days before I decide for sure. I don't know why people hated this movie so much. Or maybe I do- It's expectations of MNS being a one-trick-pony of having some insane twist at the end of every movie that knocks you on your seat. But this movie doesn't have a world-shattering twist at the end. Like someone else mentioned, it actually lays out the plot in the beginning. It's the details that really shine. I highly recommend it, but with a side: this is a fairy tale, not an action flick or whodunnit. It's a movie with tons of heart and a message. Check it out. Here's how I rank M. Night's movies: 1. Unbreakable 2. Lady in the Water 3. The Sixth Sense 4. Signs 5. The Village
