The only time I'm ever the only one laughing at a joke is after the dorkiest jokes from the movie pop up. I was the only one that laughed at the Matsui joke, I was the only one who laughed at the "you framed an Asia poster?" from 40-year old Virgin ... In high school I was the only dweeb laughing at the "Mama Cass ... ham sandwich" gag from "Austin Powers," and two years later I was the only one laughing at the "Alan Parsons Project" joke after the second version. I actually had a friend of mine, a week later at a college party, ask me about that joke because he "knew it would be something you'd get." Ima, thanks for bringing up Harold Ramis. Brilliant, and funny. Nobody does bemused like Harold Ramis -- check "Knocked Up" or the volunteer office scene from "Stripes" as an example.
I finally saw the film last night. I thought it was brilliant. It was the perfect blend, of sentimentality, absurdity, and comic genius. As was stated previously in this thread, it might be the most realistic movie I've ever seen. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who likes the other Apatow films. It's at least as good as 40YOV.
*BUMP* Saw this on PPV last night. Definitely one of the top 3 funniest movies I have ever seen. Lots of stuff hit home. Spoiler My favorite part was when they were having sex, and Ben/Seth was afraid of doing it too hard cause he didn't want to hit the baby. Then, when they were doing it on their sides, he had his hand on her stomach and freaked out when he felt the baby kick. The same thing happened to me, except I saw her skin move and I freaked out in the same way, and like Allision Scott, my wife was pissed off for stopping. Anyway, every married w/ children couple should see this movie. If you haven't seen it or know someone who hasn't, the DVD would make an excellent Xmas gift.
