in that article I posted above, the genesis for that scene was born when Apatow and Rogan were discussing what would be the most embarrassing thing that could happen during an earthquake, and Rogen mentioned that he used to save all of his used pot baggies and paraphenalia... Spoiler one of the drawers in the earthquake scene was filled with baggies, and there was also a mar1juana plant that she found... it was a good scene to hit home what kind of lifestyle he was living and that she was about to have a baby with this guy... the movie did a very good job of exposing Pot Culture without glorifying it... ..as you grow older, its not something you really want to brag about or be proud of... there was even the scene with his dad when they talked about the hypocrisy of telling your children not to do drugs when you do them yourself... as for Rogen's character, at first he hides his habit from her, then he eventually smokes less and less, then he gives it up for good for the good of the baby... he really is a good guy at heart, from the beginning of the movie until the end... he is just forced to deal with life's unwritten plan... sorry for my ramblings, this film affected me deeply, to me its not just the "funniest movie of the year", its much more than that on many levels...
saw it Sunday night, I thought it was great, no complaints, its a bit longer than usual, but I like it like that. btw, Kathrine Heigl is so freaking hot, I dug her since I saw her on some Disney Movie (damn I sound like Kam) "Wish Upon A Star" that come out like 10 years ago. btw, I agree with Jeff, its one of those movies, where u have to watch Multiple viewings to appreciate it, another example BASEketball, even though I think I am the only person on this planet that loved that movie.
baseketball was an awesome movie. i for one think just about everything matt and trey touch is gold. that includes cannibal the musical, and orgazmo. similar to aptow. freaks & geeks, undeclared, 40 yr old virgin, and this as well.
interesting find on IMDB: interesting, wouldve been awesome because that means that Romany Malco's character "Jay" wouldve been part of it, and he was like half the funny parts in that movie.
One more overlooked cameo, Alan Tudyk, Wash, from Firefly. He plays the E! executive talking about getting tighter. He was in dodgeball too. It's nice to see some of these guys from canceled tv shows get some movie time in. Especially with this director, as he has many of the guys from his own canceled tv shows, and the upcoming movie with the kid from Arrested Development.
Saw it today...really good movie, but in terms of a comedy I'm not going to rank it up there with 40YOV. But it's a good movie with a good message. I'm not a big fan of drug humor in movies. I think it's overplayed for cheap, easy stoner laughs. In this case it did have some merit showing him going from a loser to a standup guy. My biggest two laughs came from Spoiler The Steven Hawkins reference and the pink eye. Both had me rolling. Bring on Superbad!
btw, i watched it again for the second time last night, I enjoyed just as much the first time, I did catch a few more laughs in which I didn't catch the first time cause I was rolling from a previous joke. I agree that its not an all comedy movie, but still made great entertainment and how real each situation, each character went through throughout the whole movie. I would compare this more to Clerks 2. Great writing with the d!ck and fart jokes in it.
I saw tonight and would most definitely rank it above 40 year old virgin...it simply had a lot more, and a lot bigger, laugh out loud moments. awesome awesome movie...
I never realized how hilarious Paul Rudd is, the style of the producer that makes all these movies is great.
Saw it last night. Very funny movie, with some very real relationship moments, especially between the married couple. One of my favorite lines, something like- "She has this whole list of things I can't do. Don't smoke so much pot. Don't have a ninja sword in your room. Don't have an illegal grow operation in your house."
Spoiler Him typing on his wheelchair and pretending to talk like Hawking was classic. But I was rolling when his friend said "Hey aren't you Deb's husband?" "Yeah why?" /shuts door in his face
Judd Apatow is both the producer and director of this movie, but there is usually more than one producer, and those who are just producers usually have little say in the creative process of a movie. A producer is more like a general manager, and the director is the coach.
I didn't laugh out loud as much as I did with Virgin, but it had it's moments. It kinda dragged on at the end for me since it was pretty long, but overall, it was a good film. Wouldn't mind watching it again.
Probably already been said but if ya like 40 y/o and Knocked up, gotta check out his tv shows, Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared. wort!
Yeah, I started watching some Freaks & Geeks episodes last week after watching knocked up (that's why I started the pop vs. soda vs. coke thread because I heard them say pop on F&G). I have to say that the show has some of the most intense and awkward scenes I've ever seen on TV (Especially that episode where lindsey goes to kim kelly's house for dinner. That was some crazy dysfunctional s*** right there). But it's a good show, well acted and written.
