I thought the movie was pretty good, just a little too over the top for me. The way the situations escalted into each other just kept me saying "You've got to be kidding...that is the most unlucky person in the world." I would say more, but I dont wanna spoil it for anyone.
I don't think the movie was perfect, but there's something about seeing a movie about a giant ape that falls in love with a woman that tells me to check logic and reality in at the door. I loved how it was over the top, if there's an island full of dinosaurs, insects, and an angry gorilla, I'd rather it be way over the top than not. SPOILER.... The dino pile-up scene was amazing.
If you can wait for over a year for Purpura to make a deal then you shouldn't have a problem getting through the 1st hour. I didn't find the first hour bad at all. It set up the second half of the movie nicely, and the last 1.5 hours were action packed.
Its an animal, but I get where you are coming from. I thought the movies was pretty good, some of special effects did look fake, but it really wasn't that noticable. didn't think it was too long because the whole time they were on the island which must have been 1/3 of the time was awesome. from the natives till knocking out Kong. I was dissappointed that they just skipped over getting him to the States. who was scratchng all over when they were stuck in the revine?
in the original they just skip over getting him to the states as well. i remember just seeing it and thinking how the hell are they getting him back, and then poof he was on stage. so i guess you can't fault jackson for not showing it either.
it was ok at best The characters were too inconsistant The CGI in the running scene was wack Esp when all the animals fell into a dog pile [where was whatever was chasing them then . . it was a fricking BUFFET!!] more folx should have died in the theater when Kong got free Rocket River
Well Kong lives up to its name. It's a giant behemoth of a movie. You can tell this was Jackson's love child. And while some may complain its too long and the first hour is tough to get through, I didn't mind the length of the movie at all. I liked how Jackson took the time to set up his characters and the story, instead of jumping onto the island quickly. And there was just so much going on that I never really felt the film was dragging. Everything positive that has been said about this movie is true. And Kong...for the first time ever I didn't look at a CG character and think, well that's CG. I truly felt his emotions. Some minor complaints though. 1) It was a little too obvious that it was A) a Weta movie and B) a Peter Jackson movie. Weta has done some incredible things with both the LOTR trilogy and Kong, but some of those effects in Kong (especially of the village) screamed Helm's Deep to me. And while directors usually have a distinct style, those sweeping, panaromaic shots of the island seemed a little too similar to LOTR. I'll also add that I did not care for Jackson's slo-mo blurred effect in a few scenes. It just completely took me out (momentarily) of the moment. 2) There were moments that the CGI was very noticeable, understandable though considering the film was being rushed. 3) I felt sorry for Jack. He was the odd man out in the love triangle, surprising since the other man wasn't a man at all. I understand that Ann loved that huge beast, and vice versa, and hell I would too. When Kong shows his more caring side, it's easy to love the big fella. But her love for him started going into creepy territory. I swear there were moments at the end where it looked she wanted to kiss him or something. Anyways, despite their being some noticeable flaws, this was one incredible film and easily one of the best of the year.
