the king kong/multiple t-rex fight is easily one of the sweetest things i've ever seen in a movie theatre. king kong is extremely well done and really the way they created the whole island and filled it with all those creatures was pretty impressive. i don't know what fatty's talking about. i LOVE jurrassic park and i think the movie as a whole is better than king kong but the special effects in this movie blow jurrasic park's out of the water. it has been over a decade so that should be expected. it's little long but despite that i never felt like checking my watch once. once they get to the island the action is almost continuous for an hour and a half. it's probably my second favorite movie this year behind cinderella man.
Just an amazing film. Arguably the finest adventure flick ever made. Character driven, instead of effects driven, this is no Jurassic Park. Naomi Watts may get another Oscar nomination for her role in Kong, she was that good. I would have preferred someone else playing Carl Denham, but Jack Black is good enough. He's probably the weakest of the main characters, but he's adequate. Adrien Brody was great... it's hard to compete with a gigantic gorilla for the affections of a smart, brave and beautiful lady, but he manages to hold his own. Damn, I liked this film. I don't know what you saw, Fatty, but I'm going to see this again, soon. (and I think Titantic was way overrated!) edit: did I fail to mention that the effects are unbelievable?? They are!
Man, I walked out of the theatre about 4 hours ago, and I'm still high! (go Rockets! win another, dammit! sonics suck!!)
awesome movie. like Jurassic Park, took about 45 minutes to get into the action, but then it didn't stop. Kong vs the T-Rex's was one of the better action sequences i've seen. and the movie made you care about Kong more than i thought was possible. i mean, in the scenes b/t watts and Kong, you could hear in the silence of the theater how into it everyone was. they pulled off their relationship as well as could have possibly been done. every change made from the original i thought was an upgrade. just a great film that really got to you. and jack black grew on me as denham more and more as the film went on. and i have to say i've really underestimated naomi watts' hotness before now. i guess since The Ring is what i mainly know her from, that's understandable, but she was beautiful in this movie. great, great film. and Deckard, are you saying Jurassic Park isn't that good by saying it's not JP or just referring to the character vs effects driven thing. b/c Jurassic Park is one of the best films ever.
So as I said before in another thread about this hyped thing.... I'll wait until it hits the dollar theater.
Why didn't this come out during the summer? Amazing special effects, even though I thought it did get carried away in some chase scenes. Overall, a great movie, I'll see it again.
Believe it or not, I don't know the story. I've heard about it, been on the ride at Universal Florida, but I seriously don't know what happens. Yeah, I'm ignorant. I really don't know what to expect, figure I should go see it soon to be shocked as most people will just assume I know the story (spoilers). My girlfriend went to see it the other night and said that it was sad... is it?! I just can't imagine that for some reason.
Shouldn't the real measure be the weekend? I mean, how many people can go to the movies on a Wednesday?
But what I'm saying is how can it be written off as a disappointing opening when the weekend hasn't hit yet? Look at the single day stats. Friday and Saturday openings are consistently stronger. This movie will more than make up for Wednesday this weekend.
From the chart it looks like many people can make it to movies on Wed. The opening day, when compared to others on the chart does look sorry but I still want to see this film.
The same exact thing can be said for the 20 movies ahead of King Kong as well. There was talk of this being the biggest grosser of all-time. When you open with the 21st biggest Wednesday, that's got to be disappointing.
I hate being one of those geeks who pays attention to movie grosses, so I have some pretty serious self-loathing to go through here... ...but Wednesday's grosses might not be indicative of the film's ultimate success. A lot of bad weather across the country, and kids still in school until next week, etc. If it's a great film, it should hold up well. I'm gonna go see it on Sunday. P.S. I watched the "original re-make" on Tuesday night. I'd seen it before, no doubt. But Jessica Lange and her skimpy outfits. Good. Sweet. Jesus.
