Avatar came in number 1 for it's seventh straight weekend with another $30 mil. Now at $595 mil domestic and $2.04 billion worldwide. Will pass Titanic (domestic) in a couple of days. With Oscar nominations coming, this flick will definitely top $700 million. Incredible.
It will be interesting to see if it wins Oscars for anything beyond Technical stuff. Sci Fi seems to rarely win the Best Pictures/etc type things Rocket River
How do they count these nowaday when you're paying $15 to watch AVATAR as to $7.50 back then for Titanic Shouldnt they go by # of tickets sold
We've already been over this in this thread. You can see the numbers adjusted for inflation at http://www.boxofficemojo.com As far as the DVD/Bluray release goes, I wonder when the extended cut with the 40+ minutes of deleted scenes will come out. They may hold that back until fall.
Is it possible for this thing to top 800 mil domestic and 2.5 Bil international? I only saw the 3D version, not sure what IMAX would look like, must be awesome.
I saw both. IMAX's screen is bigger and I felt the picture was crisper. The sound system might've better in IMAX theater. Overall, I think they were about the same in my untrained eyes.
Or maybe by the # of crazy ladies who watched titanic like 10 times. That's the difference IMO. I imagine Titanic drew more women audience and Avatar is more of guy's movie. Not many guys will see a movie more than 3 times no matter how great it is for 2 reasons 1) waste of time 2) embarrassing. OTOH, Titanic had ladies coming back again and again for wanting the pretty boy save "her", which explained why Titanic topped the box office from 5-14th week, not the first 5 weeks.

^^ Wow, 20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Hehehe if you ever want to know what a 'philistine' is, just look at these videos and listen to this bitter old dude.
Titanic 1997: $957,460,300 = adjusted for inflation $600,788,188 = unadjusted for gross. So 600,788,188 /957,460,300 = 62.7%.
