I did research on them, it looks like the theaters have a special lens attached to their projector which allows the image to be broadcast in 3D. What I haven't figured out yet is whether or not you will be able to use them at home, in a theater set up. DD
I was at the very top, and me and my boy exited from the top where all they had was a bin to drop the glasses off and no employees. Of course we kept it after paying $15 for a ticket!
I'm not saying that you go to a movie NOT caring about the characters and plot....I'm just saying complaining about them for this particular movie is futile. This movie wasn't MEANT to be watched for it's screenplay....that's like watching 2012 for it's character development and social commentary. This movie was purely meant to showcase the technology that's out there today. That's all. As far as Pocahontas, my bad. I thought you were comparing the two in terms of production and direction, not storyline. The storyline is obviously similar. My apologies.
As far as I've heard you won't, I'd heard talk that only the newest TVs and bluray players will be equipped to handle the 3D, an upcoming PS3 update is supposed to give it 3D capabilities. All that being said I think I read in a gaming magazine, about Avatar the Game and 3D, that you still have to shell out a hefty penny for special 3D glasses to take advantage of the tech, so I'm assuming it won't be the same type of glasses they give you at the movies.
I'm saying that the action, effects and scenery did not make up for how stupid the story was and how little I cared for the characters. I like big action movies. I don't think it delivered enough action, special effects, or whatever to make up for the faults. It's not like I came to your house and demanded you dislike the movie, by the way. I am just stating my opinion.
Myst? Fantasia? LMAO!!! See, that's is your problem and it doesn't mean the movie is crap. Just because the story been done before and some cheap visual that you have seen before in other movies/games ect. doesn't make this a terrible movie. At least he took the theme and stories from other movies and give it a visual twist to it making it a fun movie that doesn't suck. Maybe you should try watching Transformers 2, GI Joe and 2012 because that's probably up your alley.
I'm going to tell you right now that they won't be the same glasses...at least not for a while. The 3D glasses you have are polarized glasses, which filters out light from each eye. There are two copies of the film running side by side (not simultaneously, but at the perfect speed from each other and at the perfect angle). These glasses will filter out the separate images into two 2D images that is seen by each eye, and your brain naturally combines both sets into one to give you the 3D effect. So unless you have two separate projectors each running at the correct speed with polarized films covering the lenses hitting your screen at the right angle, these glasses will not work with your home theater set up.
Let me try this again. MYST? FANTASIA? "Lion King" soundtrack? "I don't think it delivered enough action, special effects" LMAO!! Not sure what movie that you saw. Maybe try watching it in theatre and not a downloaded version.
Hey what color is your 3D glasses? The one that I use for AVATAR at IMAX 3D was the left eye is Pink and the right I think is blue or green when you viewing it from the inside? We were told with a bit announcement was that we have to return the 3D glasses after the movie and if we walk out with one, the alarm will go off. So I think it was special 3D glasses made for the IMAX version. While the other 3D glasses that I saw for UP and other regular 3D movies where both eyes are shaded clear dull color.
I'm not "holier than thou" regarding keeping the specs, but it never occured to me to do it. Is it OK? Are we "allowed" to? Besides greed, I thought the higher ticket price was to cover the cost of the new projection equipment. Freaky! Anyway, I absolutely loved the flick, lousy script and all. Truly a milestone in cinematic history. Comparing it to Star Wars, which I saw the day it came out, is very apt, IMO.
Heck yes you are allowed to, you paid extra for the ticket...they ask you to return them but it is just a request. They still charge each person for a pair whether they are recycled or not. DD
Yeah, I don't think keeping the glasses is a big deal, but at this point they are useless to you. Even with any updates to players like the PS3, you still have to have the hardware (TV) for it....which I don't believe are widely available yet. (If it ever will be). I think the big TV makers are making a push for 3D tech, so who knows. But like someone said above...even then I don't think it's going to be the same as what they are using in the theaters anyhow.
Actually, if you go to the IMAX ones (the Glasses that didn't come in a packet), it actually cost $25 per glass. Now the real D 3D one, I don't know about.
Did you see this in IMAX 3D? If so then .... meh. But the movie was meant to be seen on a huge screen in 3D, and all opinions on the movie is invalid until that happens.
This was just a horrible movie no matter which way you look at it. I don't normally come into threads just to post how much I dislike something but, wow. Awful. Yes, I saw it in IMAX3D. I've seen IMAX3D movies before, though, so the fact that it was in 3D did not make up for the horrible acting and plot.
saw the movie a couple of days ago, enjoyed it, was kind of bored with the story. I didn't get why so much time was invested in the scene trying to save the doctor. Felt forced, awkward, and tedious. I'm pretty much on the bandwagon of visually stunning, mediocre-to-poor storyline, but would see again.
Reading comprehension isn't your thing, apparently. I said I don't think it delivered enough action, or special effects to make up for the lack of characterization, dumb story and derivative plot. As said earlier in the thread, I saw the film in 3d at an Imax theater. If this is your favorite movie, God bless you. The key part is that I don't give a crap what you think. Since this is a thread where people express their *own* opinion about "Avatar," maybe you should be content with your feelings about the film. You ain't changing mine, so piss off.
Don't know how much use the pairs you kept will be, these are the type of glasses that are being used for 3D with the PS3 games that currently offer it. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Overview.html
How exactly was the acting horrible? I just don't get that. The only complaints I've heard were that Sam Worthington when in Avatar form, was a little flat and uneven at times. And I'd say Michelle Rodriguez didn't exactly stand out, but wasn't terrible either; she was just there. Other than that, everyone was quite respectable in their roles. And in fact I've heard a lot of praises for Zoe Saldana. She was unbelievable as Neytiri. Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi played their villain roles to perfection, as did Sigourney Weaver. Most of the characters (save for Jake and Neytiri) were a bit one dimensional, but that's a script problem not an acting one. I'll buy that the plot is straightforward and predictable, but it's still quite serviceable. To each his own though, I enjoyed the ride through and through, and I'll enjoy it whether I'm watching it in 3D or not.
