I am still loving it, got to see it again, and get some more 3D avatar glasses. Oh, and Swoly.....I have a theater in house, so I need multiple pairs of glasses when we buy the DVD for when we have movie night with friends. DD
just saw today too! in 3D! i am just curious if anyone else thought about what the real meaning behind this movie might be. for some reason, i kept thinking the movie was trying to portray the idea of deforestation and we should try to save the earth. it was like bulldozing through an african jungle as the navis seemed like an african tribe with the braids and their dialect. all with special effects!
saw it yesterday in IMAX again got awesome seats and outside of this old lady and presumably her 30-40 something year old son and wife/gf who was causing some issues about moving around with the seats before the movie started it was fine. absolutely just love this movie i mean it feels like you're really in a different world the 3d effects were great it still astounds me. i was able to see things the second time around i didnt notice the first time like how the Navi have 4 fingers while avatars have 5
It's very impressive and I doubt it'll stop since nothing comes out this weekend and most kids are still out for the holidays.
Avatar= Myst, Fantasia, Pocahontas and a boatload of DUMB. For all of that money spent on new camera technology, Cameron ought to invest in a better scriptwriter.
I think if you're watching that movie for the script, it's not Cameron who' s the dumb one. Sorry, but that movie isn't meant to be a Scorsese or Tarantino-esque film where the dialogue makes it move. It's all about the scenery and the imagery.....and I'm pretty sure comparing it to Pocahontas is just plain asinine.
What's wrong with Pocahontas? At least this movie is 90% better than a whole lot of crap that came out this year. By the sound of it. You probably didn't even watch the movie but just jumping on the hate bandwagon.
On one hand, this could take out Titanic. At least it's a more deserving film of the top box office draw title. On the other hand, its still the same pompous ass who will have been at the helm.
I would have gone Pocahontas meets Dances with Wolves, meets Star Trek. With a dash of Duke Nukem thrown in hehe.
Settle down, fanboy. I saw yesterday in 3d. I thought it was underwhelming. I thought it was derivative of better movies and kind of stupid. The dazzling special effects were the sum total of the film.
Since when do you watch a movie and not care about the characters and plot? Is that not part of the script? I didn't expect the movie to be anything- I just found the story silly and derivative, the message shallow and contradictory and the characters wooden. Also, I hated the "Lion King" soundtrack. It was awful. The scenery and imagery were fine, but I've seen this before in "Myst" and "Fantasia." For real. Last, if you can't see the parallels of Pocahontas with Avatar, then you are either unfamiliar with the story, or being willfully obtuse. Pocahontas "was the daughter of Powhatan, the tribal chief or Weroance of the Powhatan Confederacy, tributary tribes that numbered 14,000 to 21,000 people. Smith later recounted that he was captured by a group of Powhatan hunters and brought to Werowocomoco, one of the chief villages of the Powhatan. He was about to be executed but Pocahontas saved him." Um, sound familiar?
Actually any blu-ray player upconverts DVD to 1080p(ish) But you probably already knew that. That being said, I'll take a 1080p native over a 480i native upconverted.
So i saw it again in IMAX3D on monday night at 10:30 i was amazed it was sold out on a monday night. The first time i watched it, the 3d was amazing(i sat in the middle). Monday night, i had reserved seats and sat at the very top row, i felt the 3d was less noticeable and also a lot harder for my eyes to adjust to. Can anyone confirm that it loses its affect the further you get away from the screen? BTW, i also kept the glasses this time.
