Really loved it. If you've read the book, then you'd know that it's different from all the others. And while a number of reviews, from so called top critics, have said that it moves at too slow a pace...well that's the point. So much to like here...dark, tense moments, action, suspense, straining relationships, love and sorrow. Gonna have to see it again though to fully wrap my head around it. The ending's pretty abrupt, but that's to be expected.
Loved it. Probably my favorite of the Potter movies so far it felt like the shortest 2 and a half hour movie ever though
agree...it was the Empire Strikes Back of the series, I thought. the tense anticipation...waiting..waiting..waiting..dread.
Saw it this morning in IMAX. I thought it was great, maybe the best of the series (either this one or the 5th one).
My only complaints: Spoiler They didn't give a proper conclusion to the Durselys. A favorite moment of the early portion of the book was when Dudley made peace with Harry, and essentially thanked him for saving his life. At the same time, they never had much of a role beyond the first three films, so I guess it's no surprise. Still it would've been nice to see. When Shacklebolt asks Harry how they were tipped off, Harry says it was probably because of Hedwig. But in reality it was because Harry keeps using the same defense against the Death Eaters. That was a big point of emphasis in the book, how his enemies are coming to kill him, and that he needs to stop trying to just simply disarm them or knock them unconscious. He needs to stop being so predictable. But they didn't mention that at all. Ron and Harry's fight...or lack thereof...this would have been an awesome opportunity to expand on the book...but they completely failed here. Someone says that I couldn't possibly know how they're feeling because my parents are dead, I'd punch his ass out. But Harry doesn't even shove him...he grabs him...wtf?! It could have started with punches, and then led to wands...it was a great moment to let their anger boil over and Yates let it slip away. Incredible moments: Spoiler Hermione wiping her parent's memories and every physical trace of her existence...that she may never see them again, it really sets the tone that this isn't like the other installments. Snape's only scene. Only regret that we see him but once...in fact it's a shame we didn't get to some of the beloved supporting cast more, but that's just the way it is. And then to see Voldemort, at one point acting like he has created an inner circle that he trusts and loves and who loves him back, only to see that it's nothing but an inner circle driven by fear. The broom chase. Awesome action sequence. The visit to his parent's grave. The Tale of the Three Brothers...beautifully executed animation. This one moment during all the "camping," I think Ron may been listening to the radio and it starts to cut out and the static noise transitions into background music as the film cuts to different shots of the tent in different locations I thought that moment masterfully showed the growing frustration of their journey. Hermione's torture scene. Very intense. Dobby's death. Hell that's practically the whole movie lol.
Scouted the movie last night before letting my daughter go watch it. It was the best HP movie so far but definitely not for kids.
They are saying the Dudley scene will be a deleted scene in the DVD. I wanted to see the Remus and Harry confrontation that was in the book.
Checked it out last night, walked away veery impressed. Really couldn't find any faults, it covered all the main aspects from the book, and the dark tone was set perfectly throughout. All my best parts from the book (wedding scene, cafe duel, broom escape, camps, confrontations, deer patronas) were in it. May have to watch it again in Imax to decide if its the best Potter movie yet. Just brilliant.
I liked it pretty true to the book, a lot of the dialogue was word for word. The CGI makeout scene was IMO inappropriate. Not to be prude and I know it's PG-13 but it was just dumb. There were several missed opportunities to hit the audience with more emotion that was in the book but missing from the movie.
The best acting effort by the trio... My fave scenes were the broomstick chase, the Nagiani (spelling?) snake ambush, destroying the horcrux,...(yea,.. I was checking out Hermoine ), Ron's speech, and the battle at the Malfoys, ...plus the animation sequence was cleverly done... but besides that I pretty much liked the whole movie, and thought a lot of it... already seen it twice...
Oh in case anyone cares the song playing during the dancing scene was Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds "O'Children" http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oG7nUee.../**http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKWydA69o9E
This is probably one of the worst installments IMO. None of the emotional scenes really hit me... at all. What I got outta this movie (also note I did not read the book): 1. Harry, Hermione and Ron run around the woods. 2. Ron leaves, Harry and Hermione run around woods some more. 3. Harry, Hermione, Ron gets captured, escapes and runs around woods again. 4. People died. 5. tbc...
I was hoping they'd give us a "Titanic" type of pg-13 nudity. Too bad Hermione doesn't live up to Rose's boobs.
I thought it was by far the worst one of the bunch, so much moving around without advancing the story. Just a waste, really.....should have skipped this one and gone right to the last...... 1 and 1/2 stars out of 4 for me......just not good. DD
