I don't understand why it just couldn't have continued after the second one? It doesn't make sense to me. Did something happen in the second one that would invalidate this new one in some way? Things didn't go completely off the rail until the third one and beyond.

Technically, Michael was killed off at the end of the second movie, so not much to work with there (unless you go with lazy cop-out writing and that's how you get the thorn trilogy of Halloween 4-6).

In my opinion, I feel like this new movie is created for true Halloween fans. John Carpenter himself dislikes Halloween 2 and admits to writing a terrible script for it because he just had to put something out there. By removing the brother-sister relationship between Michael and Laurie in the new movie, it takes it back to the foundation of what made the original movie so great: Michael is pure evil with no true motivation to kill.

This is absolutely the 2nd best movie after the original. It had me tense in some parts like the original watching it as a kid. Some of the shots are amazing. There is only one stupid part I thought in an otherwise great movie.

I agree, it seemed a bit weak... At the same time though, I can respect it in the fact that the writers did not want an exact Loomis copy, so that was a breath of fresh air. While Loomis's obsession revolved around containing evil, the new doctor's obsession revolved around understanding the motives and mindset of evil.

It was pretty good. You can see the twist coming from a mile away though.

Just saw this movie as it finally came out for rental. I did not care for it much at all. I felt it didn't really work and it wasn't scary. It just completely lacked the feel of the original even with the original music.

Don't read any further if you haven't seen the film and don't want slight spoilers but I'm not spoiler tagging it because this movie has been out a while.

There was this hype about a scene shot in one take where he's on a murdering spree. I expected this really cool scene where he goes from house to house just slaughtering people. But, he went to like two houses and it wasn't believable at all because he's doing all this with a huge crowd on the streets trick-or-treating who were completely oblivious that Michael is standing right there with a knife (like they had no idea who he was or what happened in the same town 40 years ago). Maybe if he did like 5 houses in a row in one scene where they filmed the whole scene in one take just rolling the camera along from house-to-house staring in the windows? But, that isn't even close to what that much hyped scene turned out to be. And, while he went to the first house in the scene as an opportunity to arm himself, there was absolutely no reason he went to the second house next door (completely out of character). And, then he turns up at that next adjacent house with the nanny and black kid where he just mysteriously is upstairs even though they were downstairs near the staircase the whole time...just because it's the next house over? At least in the first film, he had reasons to kill at the houses he went to because it was Laurie and friends in the same area he was stalking. Then, he just miraculously ends up in the same enclosed backyard Laurie's granddaughter and friend is hopping fences and cutting through to save time?

And, then his lame doctor (a horrible Dr. Loomis replacement by the way) ends up killing a cop for Michael and drives Michael to where he needs to get to...to finish what he came for? Puhhhllleeeasssee! Lame! And, Michael seemingly ignoring the granddaughter in the back seat of the cop car he is sitting in and next to. Then, just letting her get away? A spincter says what? What?

Some of the end scenes with the house are kind of cool as far as what Laurie did to prepare and her small battle with Michael. And, yes, the twist was kind of spoiled.

I also think the idea of showing Michael without the mask in a lot of scenes killed off the creepiness of Michael throughout the film even if they didn't really show his face.

I'm just disappointed in the script. It should have been better. Not a good ending to it imo. Kind of sorry I wasted my time on it. I enjoyed some of the sequels more than this garbage. And, Halloween 2 was way better so I'm not ignoring it for this crap. And, I'll repeat it again...the mask change from the original mask was a mistake. The altered Captain Kirk mask is the only true mask.
