Like @MadMax I don't watch or enjoy horror movies, though for me it's moreso due to not enjoying the cringe or jump scares. I'm generally ok with horror previews but this one showed a lot including the scene in your spoiler. I was fairly irritated at it being in the previews for John Wick 4.
I had to rewatch the trailer that the op posted. Luckily my spoiler wasn't in that trailer. But yeah... it still showed a lot. My other half doesn't do horror flicks either because of nightmares. I already dreamed about it last night.
I’ll give this a 7.5/10 it was tense throughout and had some decent scares, but it ultimately had the same issue that many horror movies come with these days, and that’s that none of the events can pop off unless people in the movie have IQ’s below room temperature they were hitting the “dumb white people in a horror movie” trope hard in this one The son Danny? A complete dumbass no one in their right mind is going into some dark hole that opened up right after an earthquake just happened…his sister was like “hey moron, get outta there, it could collapse on u”…and he’s basically like “man, shut up with all that smart sh*t…let me be great…let me be dumb” hey Danny, u might not want to wait until halfway through the movie before letting the rest of the family know that u found a demonic book and some demonic recordings, and right after messing with the book your mom started pop locking, walking on ceilings, and trying to kill everyone they do a lot of slowly walking up to and trying to touch the person who is clearly possessed… horror movies work for me when I’m able to put myself in the movie even if it’s something outlandish like demon possession, but these people were so dumb that if this movie was starring Reeko, it would’ve been 5 minutes long even the boyfriend in the opening scene…C’mon son! If I saw my girlfriend plop somebody’s scalp on the dock and then do what she did, ain’t no way I’m jumping in the lake after her. I’m making a beeline for the car and peeling off Alyssa Sutherland gave a good performance as the possessed mom…she of course was the star of the movie for me I saw the 2013 Evil Dead in theaters as well, but hadn’t seen it since…now I wanna watch it again to see how it compares to this one
Someone needs to start a thread for @MadMax and others (I'm with him, jump scares and knifey bloody stuff are the worst), of the best funny-not-very-scary horror movies...I have ideas
I’ll give this movie props for only being a hour and a half long…y’all know y’all didn’t have much to work with and there wasn’t much of a script, so no need to pad the runtime get the audience in and out quickly
