I feel you brother. Not a fan of martial arts movie? Cause that's what this movie is. Butt plug fighting is peak Cinema. Or should I say, poetic cinema.
would’ve given it to Elvis but bad timing. If that movie came out a decade ago it would’ve swept. Oscars love them some biopics
Honestly, I prefer that EEAAO won over Elvis but that's just because I'm not a huge Elvis fan. I haven't seen Elvis yet so I can't make a decision on it, I just don't simply care to. That being said, as fun, hilarious and poignant as EEAAO was, it's not worthy of 7 Oscars, and I absolutely love martials arts movies with any kind of decent story behind them.
I mean, I get it, I just don't think it deserves them. Still, better than previous questionable choices they've made in the past I guess.
I just think this was nonsense with no reward or satisfaction and zero emotional connection. I mean, i get it if lesbians connect with it as a mother and daughter story, but it's not even really that applicable to Asian pride. People don't take superhero genre seriously and Avatar gets absolutely slaughtered in terms of taking it seriously, but stuff like EEAAO can win best picture and it makes zero sense to me. It has that overhyped sympathy rewards points for minorities that Hollywood cares about. Wakanda Forever didn't get the memo that Hollywood doesn't care about Mexicans. Parasite absolutely was great. One of the best films i had seen in a long time. It deserved to win. EEAAO is like ADHD on bath salts and it won because it's riding a Hollywood hot for Asian wave with a Gay pride boost. India has a big Hollywood wave come and go, but it's coming back again.
Hollywood is it's own weird self-obsessed echo chamber. Look at what the women do to themselves with plastic surgery and think it looks great. Who knows wtf these freaks are thinking?
I'm not hating either. The nominees this year weren't that great to begin with. The Whale was good. Happy for Brendan. You would have thought it would get Best Picture nominee and win. I do get the sense that him being so overly emotional all the time has taken away from the acting if that's just who he is now. Same for Elvis. Austin Butler just talks like Elvis everywhere he goes now, but it was just a so-so-too long film. Babylon was actually way better and not nominated. Banshees was a massive let down because i loved In Bruges. Didn't see Tar or Women Talking or Triangle of Sadness but i get the sense i've seen a million movies like them. The Fableman's was alright, emotional, just nothing that wowed me. All Quiet on the Western Front probably should have won. Top Gun and Avatar were never realistically in the running, but if it was down to EEAAO, Top Gun, and Avatar, i don't see how EEAAO is even in the same room, building, planet...as those 2.
Ridiculous this movie was considered the best movie of the year with the best writing and best directing and 3 best acting performances of the year. I'm sorry. Beyond overhyped.
I haven't seen it but if it's anythling like their previous movie Swiss Army Man. I probably don't want to. SAM was incredibly overhyped too. The filmmakers must have great backing and/or connections.
That's insane when you put it all together like that. Not even some of the greatest films in cinema history have nearly swept awards like that.
Exactly same opinion on everything. Loved the Ray Charles and Johnny Cash movies. Do not even care one bit about watching Elvis though. All At Once was pretty great although a bit boring here and there too though. Regardless it is preferable to see it win a bunch than some others in the past like Shakespeare in Love or some crap like that.
It felt like THE JOKER . . .a way for people who HATE comic book/Sci Fi movies and all the fans of those movies . .. to thumb their nose up at them. It was an ok movie but It was basically Dr Strange Multiverse of Madness wrapped around a family and not the universe I also thought the Daughter was more of a Supporting Actress than JLC Rocket River
I did enjoy Angela Bassett's FTS expression when the Oscar went to Hollywood royalty. No offense to Jamie Lee Curtis.
