It must be some kind of inside joke. Keeping things gangster. Oscar Isaac sounded like the Fat Tony character from the Simpsons as Duke Atreides. Another weird funny thing I noticed was whenever Isaac tried to play the character with an aristocratic air were the moments he sounded like Fat Tony. When he played the duke as a a man of his people he sounded like a blue collar cop from a TV police drama.
Pretty jacked to see the next one. I'm on book 5 now, series has been a slog but it's terribly interesting. Just a crazy amount of world building with every installment. Heretics of Dune in particular just seemed like a big reset and it's kind of hard to get through but if I know anything, by the end of it I'll be fixated and will probably read the last 10-15 chapters at once. They be like that for me.
Had the same feeling about Isaac. Just a really weird part of Dune Part I. And then there was robot Brolin -- WTF?
Me too. I have literally no interest in it Rocket River LOL! Someone will definitely find some . . . .other uses Rocket River
I have never read the novels, but based on what the internet has said I can only come to the same conclusion. Nothing was clear. I don't need additional exposition, but they needed to show it to me. Like if I had known the civilization had turned their back on technology, that would explain the world and those mentats. If I knew some of the politics and maneuvering, that would have allowed me to payoff some of the critical manipulation. If I knew how spice worked, I could understand why it was central to the plot.
Everyone raves about how this version of Dune is awesome. The world building is top notch. It's much better than anything out there But the story is clear as mud. Hopefully there will be a good series to patch it up.
I watched Dune again the other day more as a refresher since part 2 is about to drop and was a bit surprised that I enjoyed it more on the second viewing than the first. So many great scenes I had forgotten about -- the movie definitely captures the dark menacing feel of the book.
The questions are: How do you get off one those worms and how the hell do you know where its gonna take you? Thumpers are one time use, it seems like, where are they getting them from?
They guide it like a horse rider. The pull the worm ring/section to expose its sensitive section, which forces the worm to move in the opposite direction. Thumpers are part of the Fremkits, the desert survival kits like the one that was put in the ornithopter.
I haven't seen part two yet but from the book the idea is you ride the worm until it tires out. You can steer the worm using the hooks around the lead segment. What that does is open up the external body plates of the worm and the worm will stay on the surface and turn so it doesn't get sand under its body plates. You get down by rapeling down the sides of the worm like going off a rock face.
