I look forward to seeing this. I can tell based on the sensibilities in this thread alone what type of movie it's going to be. I'm thinking of Gus Van Sant's really experimental stuff (Gerry, Elephant, etc...) when you guys talk about the "pregnant pauses" who are the Cohen Brothers by the way?
Seen the movie a few days ago and from the reviews I was expecting more but still a good movie. Probably not one I'll remember down the road.
if your one of those people that likes The Transporter type of movies with r****ded action scenes its probably not for you
stylistically very cool, and the music is great Plot starts off strong and then goes off the rails, the last half is a total mess. Like some bad Tarantino ripoff.
Saw this last night and really liked it. When I saw it was getting really good reviews, I purposely avoided reading anything about it in order to go in without expectations. It was definitely not what I expected, and I mean that in the best possible way. Spoiler Did anyone else catch that the movie is basically a modern retelling of the old western classic Shane? Basically, you have a mysterious loner who befriends a family in trouble and helps them out. Like Shane, Gosling seems reluctant to use violence but proves very capable of dishing it out when forced. The end is also similar to Shane - the bad guy is taken out, the family is saved, and the hero rides away, possibly while dying. Another observation - the beach scene where he kills Nino while wearing the mask seemed to be somewhat of a Halloween reference
Really liked albert brooks character and loved the music and ominous feel of the movie...that being said, this movie is a big flaming pile of "asterisks".

Liked it a LOT. It definitely accomplishes what it set out to. Similar to "The Tree of Life" in the sense that it was really hyped and both have the slow and ominous approach. Far surpassed The Tree of Life in my opinion, although the stories are entirely different. Glad I saw and will see again when it comes to dvd.
Michigan Woman Sues FilmDistrict Over 'Drive' Trailers Michigan resident Sarah Deming has filed a lawsuit against FilmDistrict because, she claims, the studio mislead her with its marketing campaign for 'Drive.' "[The studio] promoted the film 'Drive' as very similar to the 'Fast and Furious,' or similar, series of movies," the suit reads. "'Drive' bore very little similarity to a chase, or race action film... having very little driving in the motion picture." more
The trailer was so bad I thought Gosling had lost his mind and I would never have even thought about seeing the movie. If it weren't for Rotten Tomatoes this movie would have been lost on me. Glad someone is suing. LOL.
i thought it was ok....the different style wasnt the problem for me, but I thought a little more background on the main character and maybe a more complete ending would have helped...mostly i just don't think gosling was right for this.
His character is supposed to be in the vein of Clint Eastwood's "Man With No Name." Kind of an amoral transient who we know little about, then finds redemption through an act of kindness.
I should have been more specific. I liked how he played that side of him, but the other side just didnt fit for me. I know he's not suppose to be Rambo, but he was taking on some experienced thugs like nothing. Maybe im just being picky, but i'd like to know more background on him. If he was the Rambo type, then you assume he's got training and strength, but i guess this guy is just running on anger?
Was pretty good. Very graphic/violent at times and just slightly different from the usual fast pace action/car movies. Well-worth a watch.
