They said it in Avengers that the staff was powered by the Tesseract, plus why would Thanos give Loki an Infinity Stone if his goal was to acquire the Infinity Stones? Didn't hear the second part. We'll see how it plays out.
There are several characters that have shared film rights, such as QS and SW. Marvel can use them as long as they aren't 'mutants', which Fox owns exclusive rights to.
I don't recall them actually saying that in the Avengers. I agree with the second part. It is the most compelling evidence that the staff does not contain an infinity stone. On the flip side, the staff possesses powers that the Tesseract doesn't. It is possible that the staff gets its powers from the mind stone. There are. I wasn't referring to legal rights to individual characters, but on Marvel's wanting control of the image/perception of the MCU universe. I doubt many non-comics people will connect QS in the upcoming Avengers movie with QS in the X-men universe (I don't even think they used the word "Quicksilver" in the last X-men film). If Wolverine popped up in a MCU film, the general public would assume the X-Men movies are a part of the MCU. I think Marvel would not want that. Marvel has been very controlling in the sense that there are certain things they won't allow in individual movies if it will change the continuity of the MCU as a whole in a way Marvel doesn't want.
Ah, gotcha, Joe Joe. Too bad Disney won't shell out a couple billion to regain the X-Men and Fantastic Four film rights. I know Spider-Man is unattainable from Sony.
Joaquin Phoenix Now Said To Be In "Final Talks" To Play DOCTOR STRANGE It was revealed during last month's San Diego Comic-Con that Joaquin Phoenix (Her) was being eyed by Marvel for the lead role in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange. Well, a new report claims that the actor has entered final talks and should soon be officially announced... Follow Josh: View CBM Profile Follow on Twitter Follow on Google By Josh Wilding - 8/28/2014 While Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston was recently said to be in the running to play Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios, Joaquin Phoenix has again emerged as the frontrunner and is said to be very close to closing the deal. According to Collider, he should sign the contract with the studio any day now and the reason it's taken so long (reports of him boarding the Scott Derrickson helmed project surfaced over a month ago) is because of his desire to have the freedom to continue starring in movies outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson and Spike Jonze (his roles in The Master and Her earned him serious awards attention). The site believes that we'll get official confirmation from Marvel any day now, and the addition of the Academy Award nominated actor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well worth getting excited over, wouldn't you say? Of course, some are already claiming that they've jumped the gun with this report, so we'll have to wait and see!
Derrickson's work as a director: Exorcism of Emily Rose - 2005 The Day the Earth Stood Still - 2008 Sinister - 2012 Deliver Us from Evil - 2014 Spaihts' work as a writer: The Darkest Hour - 2011 (dafuq is this) Prometheus - 2012 Well... I liked Prometheus. So that's something.
I think given Marvel Studios' track record of using directors without A-List (or even B-list) status has been great enough that I think the movie will be fine. Now if this was Fox handling the movie then we should be worried.
I think it's a pretty good fit. His 'stache in "Her" + His eye makeup in "Gladiator" + His swinging/action abilities in "Signs" + His loopiness in "I'm Still Here" = a pretty good Dr. Strange
A lot of it has to do with Joss Whendon being a primary architect and guiding hand in every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. These directors add their own flair and style but they have oversight.
In the comics it's not an infinity stone, but in the movie universe it is. Tesseract == Cosmic Cube == Infinity Stone (movies) / Tesseract == Cosmic Cube != Infinity Gem (comics)
I think that's after Avengers. The movies before are from a different mastermind who's done a pretty damn good job in hindsight. Speaking of hindsight, Whedon might sound a like a surefire choice now, but some of his movies were hits and misses at the box office despite being cult favorites. A similar situation would be like giving Joseph Michael Straczynski, who's also popular in the geek community, more creative powers. It's always a risk, and Whedon paid off big. Initially, the geek in me had some issue with that, like wondering if that's confirmed, but really it'd probably confuse audiences and there's no real need for the difference provided that an Infinity Gauntlet movie comes out in the next 5 years... It's like the direction they took with the Nova Corps. Making them not a Green Lantern ripoff doesn't really matter when you think of it. What made Nova interesting when I read the comics was when the corps was all dead and Nova was the last member... It's too bad Fox owns the Silver Surfer.
His work on Marvel comics was always good. Nobody knows anything Green Lantern anyways. Green Lantern = cult following, Guardians = Summer Blockbuster.
Internet provides: Also (please no): Ethan Hawke Interested In DOCTOR STRANGE Role While Joaquin Phoenix is still considered a hot favourite to play the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel's Doctor Strange, rumour has it that Ethan Hawke is a possible contender too. So, is he interested in reuniting with director Scott Derrickson? Absolutely! In the following interview with MTV News, Hawke confirms that he would be very interested in playing the Marvel character if the filmmaker were to offer it to him. However, it's also clear that he hasn't been approached and while his interest and enthusiasm is great to see...he's no Joaquin Phoenix in all honesty!
Ethan Hawke never has any emotion on screen. Looks half asleep in every role. Clearly the type of actor that broke into Hollywood solely because he embraced Scientology and slept with some producer dude along the way.
Phoenix is out. http://www.superherohype.com/news/317179-joaquin-phoenix-no-longer-in-talks-for-doctor-strange
Latest rumor is Benedict Cumberbatch is in "final negotiations" for the role. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/27/benedict-cumberbatch-cast-as-doctor-strange
