http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/delgo-worst-opening-ever.html Seriously? Look at the impressive list of voice actors...yet, I never even knew this thing existed, much less that it actually came out already.
I think we saw that previewed in the Wall·e movie at the theaters, and I thought it had decent, but not good animated plot. I saw the names listed on the preview, and I could recognize a couple, but then I thought my girls and I could wait until it was announced again to get some interest. I didn't see anything in other movies about it, not even marquees or posters outside the theater. I thought, for sure, something must have happened to it. Sad stuff indeed.
How are people supposed to know this movie exists if there are no advertisements and no mention of it at all? Don't get me wrong, I feel for the guy, though.
I watched the trailer at the link. The animation looks horrible compared to what we've gotten accustomed to.
I saw one or two commercials on the week that it came out. I couldn't believe that: A) Anyone would want to watch such a cheezy looking animated movie featuring reptilian humanoids and fairies. B) They expected to make any kind of money without a proper marketing campaign. I'd never even heard of this film until a week ago. I feel sorry for the creator because he tried to put out a movie outside the normal hollywood power structure, but releasing this movie wide was pure suicide. They would have been better off trying to platform it out from a few starting locations. Although with the poor quality of the film, that was probably also doomed to failure.
- "Mommy, what's a Delgo?" - Ugly characters - Poor (by modern standards) animation - Generic plot - Massive war scene in a kid's film - No advertising Yeah, that sounds like a smash hit to me.
http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/we...?page=WRSTOPN20&sort=opening&order=ASC&p=.htm Ha, I actually saw one of those movies in the flop ranking (Ghost of Mars). There must not have been as many theaters or 2000+ theater movies in the 80's as there are now, cuz every single movie in the 2000+ theaters lists are mid-90's to current. Feel really bad for the people involved in this Delgo movie. It wasnt even CLOSE to being 2nd worst flop. Its the worst by a mile. Delgo sounds like a word from urban dictionary. Poor guy. Someone should've told him he had bad taste (in casting, direction, and style) before he went balls out on his movie making ambitions.
That would be an A-list set of actors if it was 1998. I completely forgot about half of those people.
You have to remember that alot of films do real poorly in the US, but have decent audiences overseas or on DVD. I think Waterworld ended up making alot of money due to foreign viewers.
I bought the video cassette version of All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 for my son a while back. Didn't realize it was such a huge flop. Honestly, while it wasn't as good as the first one, it wasn't all THAT bad IMO.
The story reads like something only Peter Griffin could think up. Reptilian people who can move rocks with their minds? Seriously?
