Yea but... Spoiler The whole thing hasn't happened yet in our real time. They're still alive. Maybe we can save them!
Point #1: How would these guys know the answer to that? Point #2: Again, how would the cast know the answer? Point #3: Your opinion. I can deal with that. Point #4: It's explicitly shown in the movie. Maybe you weren't paying attention.
I thought the movie was great. I can completely understand how some people won't like it (or really "get it"). Think of it more like one of those films they used to show on the inside of that domed building at AstroWorld. It's more of getting to "experience" what our characters are experiencing than watching what they're going through vicariously. Pretty smart concept, in my opinion.
I agree with most of what you're saying. However, Spoiler the fact that they're "typing and speaking in character" currently on their myspace pages doesn't mean much since the attack doesn't happen until this coming May 22. Otherwise, I think you're spot-on about the "big picture" thing.
I agree that the "haters" nitpicking about the lack of explanation have unreasonable expectations. We all knew the movie was shot from a first person perspective as if they were documenting a real event. If this really happened, do you think anyone would have conclusive answers as to where it came from just a few hours after they see it for the first time? Hell no! If you were in their situation, you wouldn't get those answers and so in the movie, they didn't get them either. But, as you would expect, they do theorize about where it came from. And guess what, if you read the Abrams quote about the mindset and motivation of the monster, one of their theories is actually correct. I have absolutely no problem with the lack of explanation. It all fits in with the style of the movie. The more time that goes by since I've seen it, the more that I really do think this was a great movie. 8/10
Everyone crying about not getting "answers." Its J.J. Abrams. I wasnt expecting answers. Ever watch LOST? Yeah, he may give you an answer or two, but it creates about 57 more. I thought the film was very imaginative. I dont care that there was no explanation. Ive seen that kind of monster movie a thousand times. I admire the originality and imagination.
the story line was okay, but i nearly threw up. i know there's an "anti-shake" button on the camcorder cuz it's got night vision. i wished they would've used it.
I just saw it. Ok, but nothing I'm going to recommend that all my friends rush out and see it. I just have a hard time believing that the military didn't have adequate missles to take it down very fast. Yes, I know you should suspend belief when watching movies, but I just couldn't buy that. The shaking camera movement wasn't as bad as I thought it might be after seeing the posted warning before entering the theatre. I didn't like the love story because I didn't feel for any of the characters at all. The movie was so short there was really no time to bond with any of them.
Imagination is one thing and being shot as if it actually happen in the camera's POV is another but the filmmakers want us to believe that shooting in shaky cam POV with realism makes it believable.... I enjoyed the movie overall but the style of the movie felt like a cop out to no closure of being an actual film....
But the whole point of the movie is that this is the film that was found. You are supposed to be watching it as if this like a home video.
The characters motivation and choices were not very accurate at all... If they choose those actions and did what they did in actual real life, they would've been dead already.... Maybe I'm looking way much into this thinking it'll be like "Citizen Kane" or something.....
Yeah but they would've died sooner before capturing all that footage they got...... If it was me holding a camera and i see a giant monster heading towards my way.... I'm putting down that damn camera and running for dear life...... Everyone would do the exact same thing too...
Are there any good sites out there that have the monster pics? I still have to wait a while before this movie arrives in South America so any help would be appreciated.
Dude. Gimme a ****ing break. We SAW all of the major characters but two die, and I don't really think they made it either. And Voltron? WTF? Five mechanical lions join to form a robot and save the planet? Even if the characters are not dead, where are they now? Jersey? Refugee camps? NYC got destroyed dude. I understand the "point" of this movie as a 1st person documentary of a monster attack + love story, but I honestly thought it was idiotic. The characters act like complete idiots in trying to survive (then again, most people would probably be just as dumb), there is no closure, everyone dies, monster which we've seen clearly for a total of 30 seconds just swims away. Stupid.
They could do another movie. The only important character is the monster and they could easily make another movie about the origins, the attack, and/or the aftermath.
