Looks like the Woolworth Building which is right around Ground Zero. It actually looks like the explosion is happening right around Ground Zero.
Ugh, you're right, and I'm an idiot. They're looking south, where the monster makes landfall near Ellis Island (not north). DUUUUH. Now that you mention it, I've seen a lot of sites that say that Ground Zero is where the explosion took place.
Ahhh! Thanks a lot! That helps make a ton of sense. Still wondering what caused the explosion and the (ground) shockwave. Evan
There's some pretty inconsistent stuff going on with the whole disaster aspect of the movie. You'd think that there would be uncontrolable fires with entire buildings being toppled, gas lines broken and firemen evacuating too. To top it off, you have a giant fireball to start the movie. Although I think that it's the tanker they show a few times.
Who said there wasn't? All we learned from the movie was that Rob, Hud, Marlena, Lily, and Beth didn't see many uncontrollable fires.
Except for the way it was filmed, I see no similiarities to BWP. I mean we're talking a monster destroying NYC and dropping parasitic crab dogs vs. so goofy teens running around in the woods being lost and whining a lot. Cloverfield is ALL action for the second half. The only action in BWP is at the end.
If you look hard enough, you'll probably discover that pretty much every idea out there has been borrowed from something else. I thought the monster was pretty original...elements may have been borrowed from other things...but it certainly isn't a blatant ripoff of anything else.
I enjoyed the movie. The hand-held camera POV was jerky and all over the place but it was different. Why is it in the movies, that the military always looks incompetent and it's usually the small guy or gal who saves the day?
Because it's interesting when things go awry, and one person acting out of passion is more identifiable than a group of people doing their job. Plus, the little guy didn't save the day in this
This is better than cloverfield, and it only last for 7 mins... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QG61JB1Xttc&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QG61JB1Xttc&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
