Either dead "lice" that dropped off of the monster or maybe small partsof it that shot off? Maybe it crawled away and died?
Found this article that fills in some of the holes with back story from the viral marketing campaign. It contains a lot of spoilers plus basically a full summary of the movie so I will just cut/paste the link: ‘Cloverfield’ Mythos Explored: Monsters + Marketing = Millions
Would everyone have lived save the chick that exploded and Beth had they just stayed down in the subway storage room where they were holed up?
Probably. But maybe the parasites still find them. And maybe when the chick exploded, everyone else would be "infected" by coming into contact with her blood. All I know is, the movie would have gotten really boring if they just stayed in one place and waited it out.
Well, when they initiated "Hammerdown" I imagine anyone down underground would have to worry about getting crushed if any part of the subway collapsed. Otherwise, they probably would have been fine until they decided to leave...then there would still be the little crab critters that they would have to fight through.
It was fine on the screen I saw it on. (my 15.4" wide screen laptop monitor at about 1/4 screen size for best resolution) I'll see it again at the theater... I thought it went hand-in-hand with all the viral marketing I'd been watching... Good flick.
Spoiler I know the monster caused the earthquake, but any ideas on what exactly it did? I know that the explosion was from the monster destroying the tanker, but I can't figure out the earthquake before the explosion.
I don't see how the tanker (seen capsizing in the harbor) explains the explosion they saw on the level of the Empire and Chrysler (that sent flaming debris as far as their rooftop). I could very well be wrong, but I chalked that up to the monster taking out a small plane or helicopter (still an awful lot of debris flying a long way though). The earthquake thing, I'm still having a big problem with as well. Manhattan's on bedrock. Maybe he stepped on this . Taking out a harbor fuel depot might also send a strong enough tremor, maybe. But there should have been quite a huge fireball. The news cast in the store they looted sure missed a lot of big developments. Evan
I never thought it was an earthquake. They people at the party did. I just figured it was from the explosions.
In the news report of the oil rig that was destroyed presumably by the monster, we saw the rig getting pulled under and then debris shooting out of the water after the rig is completely submerged. My guess is that the monster attacked the oil tanker causing it to explode. A full tanker would definitely cause a major explosion that would send debris flying everywhere.
Did that cause the earthquake? Did that make the lights go out in the city? I don't buy it. Plot holes
The lights went out before the explosion and when they were watching the news at the party it said that an earthquake caused the tanker to capsize.
And that news report shows a giant chunk of debris hitting the little rescue boat, FROM the p.o.v. of the rescue boat! Did they find that camera at the bottom of the sea? Someone was fliming a live satellite feed from a little rescue boat? Please. Also, fine I can take the explanation that the camera lasted so logn b/c Hud was turning it on/off, but wtf kind of camera survives a nuclear detonation closeby?
What I mean to say isn't a natural earthquake, but whatever it was that sent tremors strong enough to shake the foundation of their building a few miles away. That's pretty tough to do, even if a fuel depot explodes on the harbor. Notice the right edge of the explosion - it seems to be on the island itself with at least one building behind it on the side. I'm also trying to figure the angles at this point. That's the Chrysler Building, correct? We know Ellis for sure, I've heard that the party took place in the East Village, and they were close enough to the Brooklyn Bridge to try it on foot. At which point the monster (at least his tail) had swung around to that end. Evan
I don't think it was a nuclear attack at then end, more like massive carpet bombing and yeah I know it's still hard to believe the camera survived. Still people it's a monster movie, it always cracks me up when people try to apply logic to bit and pieces of movie like this, why not start with the most obvious, how in the hell is there a monster that size or any monster what so ever?
It wasn't a nuclear detonation. Maybe a MOAB, but not nuclear. The US wouldn't nuke New York because it would make it uninhabitable for years. I believe there were also two explosions too. I seriously doubt they would nuke the city twice.
Judging from where they're supposed to be (East Village) and where the explosion is, I think the tall building on the right might be the ConEdison building. But I could be wrong.
