This movie is wayyy over-hyped. Its a good movie, but take away all the dream within a dream stuff, it is basically the story of a man looking for redemption and over coming his guilt.
Why the hell would you take away parts of it though? The dream within a dream stuff is a big part of what made it so great and not generic. I mean its not like you watched the movie or can watch the movie without that stuff. I don't get why people say stuff like that, its stupid.
Agreed. That's like saying, "'The Dark Knight' is wayyy over-hyped. Its a good movie, but take away all the costumed crime fighter stuff, it is basically the story of a man who has a lot of money." or "'The Matrix" is wayyy over-hyped. Its a good movie, but take away all the computerized fighting stuff, it is basically the story of a man being used as a battery."
We should be happy an ambitious, non sequal, non adaptation summer blockbuster is overhyped. I'm hearing some backlash with "welp it wasn't as smart and complicated as everyone is saying", comeon, that's not the point. I mean isn't it smarter and more complicated the average dull mind numbing blockbuster?. Shouldn't we be relishing that this made? And despite all of this, it's not even a bad movie. I'll admit I had some gripes with it and their was some things I didn't like at all but it still better than 90% of the crap that gets put on the big screen these days.
could not of said it better myself. i havent seen it yet but im sure its better then a vast majority of stuff that comes out there to the local picture show.
This forum is wayyy over-hyped. Its a good forum, but take away all the rockets and sports stuff, it is basically just another message board.
Yeah, take away all the Rockets stuff on a Rocket forum and Clutchfans is just another message board. That makes sense...
Take away all the mob stuff in the Godfather and it's just another suburban daddy issues angst piece.
Oh really, that's a complaint? That a big movie at its heart is a personal story instead of another messiah movie?
It's been done before. Ever see The Cell? I thought the movie was good but not great and definitely over hyped. I would say it was most similar to The Cell, but had traces of The Matrix and Dark City in it too. Spoiler I thought it was strong hinted at from early in the movie that the whole thing was a dream. 1.) Leo was in the bathroom, about to spin his totem by the sink and Saito walks in and startles Leo who knocks over his totem with his hand before you get to see if it stops spinning or not. This is the biggest hint that you don't know if he is in someone else's dream or not. 2.) Saito says the "leap of faith" line in the helicopter on the tarmac. In Leo's memories of his wife jumping to her death, she says the same "leap of faith" line to him. Saito is a projection and not real but he had to create him to give him the chance to perform the mission and go home (his dream come true). 3.) Leo doesn't want to look at this children's faces because he doesn't know what they look like. In fact, he doesn't really have kids. 4.) Leo sees his kids faces at the end because his "dream" of going home has come true (in his mind). Others have pointed out that the kids are also wearing the same clothes as in his memories. 5.) Leo would have to wake up in the Siberian army base, then the underwater van, and then in the hotel elevator before waking up on the plane. Him not knowing how he woke up on the plane was him entering another level of dreams.
I just saw it. I was okay, good but not great. Spoiler The girl's (architect) part was extremely weak. Her part was there just to ask questions pertaining to the main character's past. Her dialog was so 'planted' and obvious that it became cheesy. Not the actress's fault, just the writer's.
There was a paradox I didn't really get or maybe I didn't understand: Spoiler If you die you wake up, but if you are sedated you keep falling into a different levels, and in order to get out you have to kick on multiple levels?
Even the music used for this movie is great. Awesome score. Can't stop listening to the final track, "Time," which came at the end of the movie: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/srrAm9Eiqcw&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/srrAm9Eiqcw&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Oh, and here's the song created and used solely for the trailer (and sadly is not part of the score): <object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="400" height="100" ><param name="movie" value="http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer.swf/track=2803219643/size=venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="never" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><embed src="http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer.swf/track=2803219643/size=venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/" width="400" height="100" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality=high allowScriptAccess=never allowNetworking=always wmode=transparent bgcolor=#FFFFFF ></embed><noembed><a href="http://music.zackhemsey.com/track/mind-heist">Mind Heist by Zack Hemsey</a></noembed></object>
Spoiler The way I understood it is that if you die while heavily sedated, you go to a weird limbo state where you don't realize you're dreaming so life just goes on and on until you die a lonely man. I think the only way to get out of that limbo is if you die, but you have to realize you're dreaming to be convinced to die (or kill yourself). Hence the reason why Cobb went and had to convince old Saito that he's in a dream. I think the kick on all levels simultaneously is for dreamers who hadn't died. Btw, I just realized Ariadne is 23! I thought she was like 16 in the movie. Now I don't feel as bad for thinking she's kinda hot in that business attire.
Yes, Ellen Page is a bit older than most people think. Much like Mr. DiCaprio, she is blessed/cursed with the permanent baby face. She's a real cutie. Sadly, however, she's rumored to be playing for the other team.
Is this movie really any different from Dreamscape? <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DCrtOAC-wsE&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DCrtOAC-wsE&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Creepy WTC premonition from the start of that 1984 movie: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/anWe8qkBPAs&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xd0d0d0&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/anWe8qkBPAs&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xd0d0d0&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
