I liked Inception quite a bit, but my initial feelings immediately after seeing Memento and TDK is that I enjoyed both of those movies more. But that could very well change with repeated viewings.
I think it will make money this weekend but it will also weed out the people who just "don't get it". Most teenagers and all kids will NOT want to see this along with those not wanting to think about the movies vast meanings. I would expect some negative backlash from those age groups but word of mouth will keep it going for a good while.
Spoiler I didn't really like the film. Was almost 3 hour movie with half the film devoted to DiCaprio's own form of dream self therapy. DiCaprio: Projected wife, you're not real. Projected wife: But what if I am real? Stay with me. Ellen Page: DiCaprio you're pretty ****ed up. You're going to get us all killed because you can't put your ho on a leash. DiCaprio: LOL. I love my wife. She's not real. What if she is though? Projected wife: I am real. The real world is a dream. Stay with me. BTW I'm going to kill Ellen Page. Ellen Page: Tell your subconscious to not kill me please. DiCaprio: LOL! I can't. Projected wife: ARRGH! Die Ellen Page! DiCaprio: I gotta get you out of here away from my projected wife who's not real, but possibly could be. Ellen Page: I'm telling the gang about your mental state. DiCaprio: NO! Please! I love my kids! Here's why I don't like it. I love my wife. If I knew already that my wife was dead and knew that my projected image of her was trying to kill my friend and myself, I probably wouldn't love her anymore. But not DiCaprio. Doesn't matter how many times she tries to screw him and the mission over, he still loves her and still struggles to believe that she is fake. It was dumb.
It was all his mind. Love is a powerful, illogical emotion... and it can distort reality more than anything else. His pain and guilt kept him from letting go. I thought it was extremely powerful.
Yeah it's hard to compare the two... but I just think Inception was just a better in it's own way than TDK. The story line was just more spectacular than TDK, and more than anything.. because it ****s with your mind... it just makes it even better.
Spoiler I dunno. I don't really consider it love when you **** with your wife's head enough for her to kill herself. I think he was more infatuated with the idea of her than really in love with her, which he kind of admitted at the end of the movie around the time his wife stabbed him in the abdomen. Also as complex as the movie was, I think the idea that everyone has a hidden safe inside their head you can crack into and alter their whole life was sort of a let down. It was too literal for my taste. It really was a beautiful movie to watch but I just didn't get into the story like other people on this board.
Most of the plot queries are answered here --> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1375666/faq if you have not seen the movie, dont go near that link

My brain still hurts from thinking about the ending. I wish someone made some sort of a dream map/timeline of the movie and the ending.
Wow this movie is way overrated. It was enjoyable enough, but nothing special. Spoiler Going inside dreams has been done a million times. The only wrinkle here is the multiple layering, which isn't all that clever and didn't do a whole lot for me. If they were constantly jumping from one to another that would have been interesting, but there was virtually no interaction between the layers, and certainly no communication. It was no different than simply travelling to another location, and that's exactly how it played out. The action sequences were pedestrian, nothing you wouldn't see in a Michael Bay flick or a Bond film, perhaps even worse. The arctic commando thing has been done a million times. The plot wasn't confusing or mindblowing at all. When the characters are asleep at all locations but one, the layering loses its impact, and it's easy to follow.
Most themes have been done a million times, it's not a big deal. It's a "original" because it's a big budget summer blockbuster that is a non sequel and non blockbuster which you've got to admit is an ambitious investment from Warner Bros.
I am very excited and very curious to see what Nolen can do with Batman 3 and his part in creating the Superman re-boot. I am almost at the point where I would be okay if he messed with Superman's mythology because I trust that he would do it for the better of the movie/franchise.
Did you watch it during the day? People around me had their crackberries on full blast and I could hear the ding from their messengers and people were ANSWERING calls during the movie. Sometimes I wish they had ethics & basic manners classes in school. People these days just don't have them. I don't know what it is about people that just can't get cell phone manners through their thick heads.
Oh really. Since it has been done a million times, you shouldn't have any trouble giving me ten great examples, right?
This was a great movie, but not as good as tdk IMO. In the theater I was in, everyone seemed to like it. I'll post more in depth reactions in a bit. Overall 8.8/10
Is the American cinema experience really that bad? I've noticed in many threads people complaining about children, noise, people answering phones, etc etc. So strange. I've never known anything like that in theatres!!
