I guess the directing worked on me because it made me wonder if we were headed down that possible future at the end. Spoiler Theo's death might've been a personal loss, but it's the individual sacrifices that would save the baby. Like others, that Julianne Moore death scene rocked me into the movie. Did anyone else read those newspapers at the place where they first took Theo that in the background? Everyone was nuked.
I watched this from Netflix over the weekend...right before bed. Took me forever to fall asleep afterwards. Excellent movie. The entire movie makes me wonder about the direction that mankind is headed.
Just saw this. Agree that it's no Blade Runner... what could be? (where's Nomar?? ) To compare it to Matrix 3, however, is terribly unfair in my opinion. Matrix 3 was a joke, if you ask me. So was #2. They should have quit with the original, which I loved. Children of Men was a brilliant little film. It didn't cost over $100 million or the equivalent in today's dollars, but every bit of what they spent is on the screen. As others have said (I think I may have), I would have liked a slightly different ending, but it could be straight from the book, which I've yet to read. Definitely near or at the top of the films I saw for that year.
Just wanted to put in my 2 cents as well. Solid film for a limited release, and hell, one of the better films of the year, period.
Yeah the 2nd matrix was semi watchable but the 3rd is one of the worse movies I've seen in the last 10 yrs, a mess. Children of men shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence
I watched it on home Friday - really interesting and entertaining film. I thought the directing was a little too "check out what I can do" (which surprised me, given that he's be making films for 15 years), but the shots he pulled off were very impressive. And it is one of the few films I've seen in awhile that seemed shorter than its actual length. I'm going to read the book next - I started while staying at my parent's place, but stopped because it was a first edition and I had a premonition of damaging it.
I watched this last night, the acting was crap except for Caine and Owen, but the movie was so awesome!
Left me more questions than answers. I agree I couldnt stop thinking about it the night i watched it.
Very good movie. Excellent camera work (most of it was the 'continuous cut' type of filming) and the scenes that were supposed to be powerful, were. I liked it the most because it was able to be both powerful and subtle at the same time. It had big moments, but a lot of time made you work for them. It really did a good job of putting you into the movie. For example: Spoiler For example, when you understand that Moore's character's death was planned, you figure it out as Theo does, by eavesdropping and hearing hushed conversation, making the connection. A big part of the movie, but the film makes you make the discovery just as he does on screen. Very, very well done.
The amazing thing about this movie is that it leads me to think about Half Life 2, which is awesome since it totally draws me into the story... I dont play games any more but still that games was the best
i watched it last night, pretty interesting. i love these "doomed future" movies. the long shots throughout the movie, but especially when he's trying to escape with the girl and being shot at was awesome. those reminded me of some of the long shots in saving private ryan. here's a screen cap, though i'm not sure if this is what Invisible Fan was talking about... Spoiler
I have to watch the movie again, but at the theater I read the papers when you normally watch the actors speak.
