The movie is supposed to take place entirely during WWII, so I hope they adopt the Ultimate Captain America look when he's in WWII. It's like a dressed up soldier's uniform. I can see them busting out the classic tights for like a propaganda film introducing him to the country, but then he asks for something different to wear before he goes off to the war.
as long as it isn't tobey "always a scene where he plays rain man" mcguire or shia labeouf. i can't stand their acting.
I think playing Wooderson in "Dazed and Confused" and banging legions of hot models all over the world *defines* credibility in my book.
Costume- Original Costume, not that Ultimates crap. Actor- Someone in their late 20's, early 30's. Cap was a young man who wanted to fight the Nazis then got frozen until the modern era. How are they going to explain him being almost 50 (Kilmer, Russel, etc)??? For looks, Ryan Reynolds is a good pick..another good pick is the guy who played the Human Torch in the FF movies. It really should be someone young, buff and has an intense on-screen presence. It was a good point about Christian Bale. As for being gay- Captain America is probably the manliest Marvel hero there is. His popularity isn't at Spider Man or X-Men levels, but he's always been above Iron Man on the awareness meter, and look where Iron Man is now after an awesome movie. Everyone is clamoring for more.
I think Iron Man translates to movies and live action about as well as any character. IMO, Iron Man is a special case, and expecting that to be the norm is difficult. Bright blue tights can look cool in ink. It is really hard to make it look cool on a real human being. Really hard. The Superman analogy is pretty good in this regard. The way both sets of movies worked were by playing up the campiness (without being campy) combined with gratuitous display of super powers. For obvious reasons, that formula won't work quite as well for Capt. America. If I were a director, I would have been much happier with the Iron Man movie or the Hulk film as opposed to Capt. America, or Thor. Both of those strike me as characters that have a much greater risk of failing horribly by looking silly.
This is a serious question - how do you guys know so much about Captain America? Reading comic books? Was there a cartoon? Almost no one I knew read comic books growing up. I knew nothing about Iron Man before seeing the movie. The only thing I know about the Hulk comes from Bill Bixby. I would just like to know how you all know so much about this stuff.
Re-runs of a live action tv series of Captain America. Saturday morning cartoons like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends had guest superheroes like Iron-Man every now and then. Also older cartoons like these on video: <object width="380" height="300"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/64VZv8zueP0&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/64VZv8zueP0&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="380" height="300"></embed></object> <object width="380" height="300"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0Wn4iYoMcAA&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0Wn4iYoMcAA&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="380" height="300"></embed></object> I'm guessing most know the characters from those Capcom video games.
<br> idk personally, i read alot of comic books growing up... Me and my sis used to read alot of books when i was younger...and we would always be at half price books, where they would sell comic books for like 50 cents each I own alotttt of capt. america comics... And, of course, saturday morning cartoons
Same with me. I grew up in the 90's. Who actually read comic books? It was all about those TV series that were always playing on saturday mornings.
If Captain America moves like Tim Roth in the Hulk.....he could look very cool despite wearing a less than cool suit.
I don't know...the newest superman didn't look bad. I could see this on the big screen: I think Thor is easy to do- just give him a more 'authentic', royal Viking look...his costume has changed so much over the years that they can tweak it and purists will accept it. Wikipedia has some really good write ups if you want the short version. It's easy to get sucked in and read all day. I was also a huge comic geek from 12 until my late 20's back in the late 1990's. I just decided to stop buying them. But you can get entire runs online and recently Marvel has announced that they will scan their entire library in for distribution.
