I saw it, I though it was great. There are a coupla choppy parts in it. Vince Vaughn (who I really enjoy) takes a little getting used to because, as usual, he is playing the part of an irritating a**hole, the Russian mobsters are dreary and the absolute worst part is Steven Tyler' s 'Big climax' duet... It's Hooooorrible! But there are a few scenes, lines and monologs that are absolutely all-timers. If you are over 35 and Uma dancing doesn't give you a chubby then you my friend are a Viagra candidate. She is HOT in this movie. Man, the way she moves is like silk and molasses. Cedric the entertainer has about a 10 line speech about the use of the 'N' word that is priceless. The Rock cannot/will not ever 'rassel' again,ha! The dude went way way over the edge with this character. He is freaking hilarious. Chili Palmer is still the coolest American ever second worldwide only to Sean Connery's James Bond. The jabs at Hollywood and the music industry are inside jokes but great when you catch them and really there is so much extra stuff to notice it's the kind of movie you need to see more than once...like: look at Uma's T-shirts after her hubby is killed or look around the Rocks apartment when Vince goes in to erase his phone messages. The way the story lines intertwine is pure Get Shorty. It's a must see, and worth the price of admission (for Uma dancing alone)
Question. I just found out that Be Cool is the sequel to Get Shorty which I have not yet seen. I was planning on going to see Be Cool today. Will I miss much if I watch it not having seen Get Shorty? Do they refer to events that took place in Get Shorty?
nah, you're fine. there are a couple of references you might miss, but no biggie. it doesn't require any advance knowledge.
First movie that I have ever walked out of... I am pretty selective as to what I go see at the theatres and I have never misjudged a movie as much as this one... Other than Vince Vaughn being a wigger, there is nothing else that is remotely humorous in this movie...
I thought it pretty much sucked, I didn't like Vaughn's character at all. I did find Cedric and Andre 3000 to be reasonably funny, it sucks when you use all the good jokes in the trailer and there is nothing else. but... DAYUM! Christina Milian... WOW I remember when I first saw her I said "whoa" and she just keeps looking better and better. Maybe even enough to crack my top 5.
Didn't like Old School. I would add Starsky & Hutch. Swingers alone gives the guy a free pass though.
That movie was hoooooorible Bill Walton style. The Rock made me laugh but there were still cheezy wrestling eyebrow references and it seemed like it was trying to be trendy like Pulp Fiction, but just wasn't nearly as good. I didn't see the first one but it looked like a can't miss with the cast. Kind of like Oceans Twelve, but this movie sucks.
Might not have been going after Pulp Fiction necessarily, but rather Get Shorty, which was pretty hip/cool itself. Get Shorty is a very underrated film. Sure, it wasn't the first of its kind like Pulp Fiction was, but it was one of few films to successfully re-create some of the magic of Pulp Fiction.
Be Cool to me had great parts, but was not a good movie. Spoiler Warning! When Chili talks about how he sold out doing "Get Lost" the sequel to "Get Leo", I thought it was the makers of "Be Cool" saying "This didn't come out as good as we thought it would" or "We just took your money. We just took your money. Yeah!".
I laughed a lot. I couldn't help myself. Now, I wonder: if I still lived in Iowa City, how much would I have enjoyed it, watching the film with a white suburbanite-type audience? I saw it at midnight Fri/Sat at Dunvale/Westheimer. A friendly crowd for this film. Also, I was with a small group (Brazilian females; ya'll can hate on me later) who liked it a lot, especially with two of the featured songs being Brazilian. They jumped forward in their chairs, glanced at each other, and sang along. I smiled wide, even though I'm usually the anal-retentive dude at the theater who can't stand others chatting while I'm watching the movie. Vince Vaughn was priceless. Absolutely hilarious. Best wigger I've seen, or, at least, the funniest. The Rock should be proud. Played against type and showed he can really act. A gay bodyguard with no discernible acting talent except to raise one eyebrow. Doesn't sound as funny as it is.
I agree. He was hilarious, especially that laugh...I thought the Rock did a good job too...Overall the movie was entertaining, not the greatest movie but entertaining. Peace.
