True, because they were good movies, I was saying that I didn't see a lot of people excited about Guardians or Ant Man when they were first announced before there was a trailer.
That's far and away my biggest complaint with this movie. They were so desperate to kickstart their shared universe, they may have poisoned the whole thing. This should have been 3 movies (superman sequel to set up Superman as the known hero, Batman solo to set up middle aged Batman, and then BvS w/wonder woman after fully establishing) yet they tried to cram it all into one and ended up with a ton of exposition, yet too much much was still unexplained. And a movie that was rarely entertaining. Just by being a little more patient and pushing things back a year this could have been so much better. Now I have even less excitement for these movie than I had before BvS.
Ant Man and Guardians were surprisingly good. BVS was surprisingly blah. Just big names no substance kinda like Dwight Howard these days.
You could tell this was bad in the trailers. The more trailers they put out the more it seemed stupid then you see they made so much money so I took the fam to go see it. My sister and wife were asking questions and I had no answers and Im usually the comic book nerd guy in the family. The movie made no sense.
This movie was very average. The action sequences were extremely video game like. There wasn't any chemistry at all.
Was going to see it Monday night w my breh friend but now we're like meh. Probably just going to grab a beer instead... maybe see Midnight Special.
Saw it online last night with my GF who is a huge nerd. She was so pissed throughout the movie with everything especially the stupid reason of Superman trying to kill Batman, Lex Luthor, the reason Batman didn't kill Superman, superman not being able to hear her mother's screams and Lane's overall acting. Also didn't like how all those heroes were introduced to us in an email attachment. She would have probably yelled all throughout the theater. For me as a casual movie fan, the movie doesn't get into an action scene until almost an hour and 30 min in. The fight between batman and superman is not bad albeit a little short. The "do you bleed" and "I thought she was with you" lines in their contexts are terrible. I didn't like who they casted as Alfred; I thought Alfred would be like the ones they used in the Batman trilogy.
I saw it the other weekend at a Drive-Inn. Missed the first 20-30 minutes trying to get in, but all in all I thought it was pretty good. The movie had a lot of problems tho. Didn't like Superman or Lex. I liked this version of Batman though. Kind of always wanted to see an on screen version of Bats that just gave no f***s. I said when he was cast I thought Affleck was a good choice. I am at least excited for his solo Batman movie, but I have no hope for a Justice League flick. I am somewhat interested in this rated R version just so I can see my bae Jena Malone's sexy ass doing whatever role she was cast for.
I thought Alfred retconned as a special forces badass makes more sense. More sense than a butler who serves tea to a murderous vigilante, one whom his parents trusted him with and has seen grown up over time. Antman as a concept sounded ridiculous even after the trailers. In the comics, he's pretty much a B-C ranked Avenger to the point where Pym moonlights as different characters. It would've tanked if it had some serious hardcore director or someone artsy fartsy at the helm trying to make the movie bigger than it was. Movies and comics are forms of escapism and Antman was fun to watch. GotG was a big gamble and the exact same movie would've tanked if it didn't have Marvel's backing and branding behind it.
Movie as blah. In what world is superman destroying all those buildings and billions in property damage okay?
The plot was just plain dumb. Really really stupid. Eisneberg was a terrible selection as Luthor or at best just poorly written. He tried to be the joker and it came off bad. I could possibly do with the storyline if you took him out completely. Affleck was ok and Gadot's Wonder Woman is promising. I'd see that standalone movie. Also sign me up for the bath with Amy Adams.
Man, I really wanted to like this movie, but I just can't do it. It would've been much better if the movie avoided the half-assed Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns homage and just made a popcorn movie that parents could take their kids to. For an attempt at making an entrypoint for a budding franchise, it was pretty much the worst decision that could've been made. And Eisenberg made a terrible Luthor but they really gave him so little to work with. His diatribes made less and less sense as the movie progressed. Maybe the randomness of his speeches were intended to show the scope of his madness, but it made a muddled movie even that more confusing. DC needs someone else at the helm, not a director but someone who can draw out a comprehensive blueprint for their upcoming series of superhero films, the way Marvel does to make sense of its world.
Great, just great: my breh just bought me an Alamo Drafthouse ticket for tomorrow night. I am pot committed now, with record low expectations. At least I can drink I guess.
