If you don't mind mild spoilers and want a good laugh (at Snyder's expense), I can recommend this "review." http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/batman-v-superman-is-v-bad-1766555948
I still think that Michael Keaton was the best Batman. I just wish the producers gave him a darker role. If you knew him y'all would know that he was up for the task.
Spoiler ending: Dwight Howard shows up with Sticky glue and puts it on his schlong and boned wonder woman.
I recognize I'm an outlier but I'm a super-fan and not close to being a critic. The last thing I reviewed in any official capacity was Molly Ivins' book for the Houston Press when she was living. I think it was in 1992. This fan finds the 37% critic rating to be a little generous if not just right. For my money it's an accurate assessment. I wouldn't give it 4 out of 10 stars but if I'm feeling generous I might give it 3.7.
I see it's down to 33 now. That's closer to my assessment of the film. It was certainly the most disappointed I've ever been made by a movie.
Yes. It was flat and it was filled with shallow ideas (man vs. god times a trillion) masquerading as depth and seriousness. And the characters were largely just mouthpieces for these ideas. As a theatre director I can tell you an actor can't "play" ideas. They play feelings and desires. These characters had none. They seemed to all be in the movie just because they were in the cast. Nobody was dreadful but apart from the rare fresh air coming from Wonder Woman, nobody was particularly good either. So many great actors just wasted. This film was 2 parts action and 3 parts pseudo-serious philosophy. If there was any depth at all to the ideas I would have happily given it a pass but Snyder made a movie aimed at 12 year olds that won't be able to get in without their parents because of all the (ultimately boring) action. And yet the action was the best thing about it. The rest was just a whole lot of self-serious talking. We finally get a movie universe large enough to include a Superman and a Batman and if you know anything about the comics that should be fun. It wasn't. At all. It was joyless and soulless. I brought in so much excitement and anticipation I was thrilled by the first 10 minutes or so. That's about how long it took for Snyder's film to suck all the energy, excitement, fun, or anticipation out of me. I kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. The trailers didn't spoil too much as so many feared they did but they were the best parts of the movie. Nothing, not a single moment, was better than the Batman fight scene we saw in trailers weeks ago. If you're looking for more of those sorts of thrills, sorry but there aren't any. Does that help?
You don't think the overall audience score will be a lot higher? Any higher? Are you tougher on films than the average moviegoer? I thought it was a bad idea to make this movie to start with because so much was at stake and I didn't see the value of bringing the two together right now. IMO, BvS should be more of a finish line than a launch point for better things to come. But it's hard for me to comprehend they blew this so badly. I bet the audience score is above 50.
can anyone remember a movie on RT rated 33% but with over 80% audience score? This could be grease 2, where 25 years later we will be discussing it was better than Nolan's. (looking for positives here)
