Couldn't agree with you more! I think some people want this movie to be bad and are suffering from confirmation bias: anything they see to prove a point of it being bad, they will jump on. This happens with a ton of stuff. This movie is going to be good! And I don't care if it doesn't beat any world records. As long as it turns a good profit a prove to be a better movie experience than other comic book movies, thats what matters.
I don't think anyone needs a hollywood source to tell them that, lol. But you really want a movie to fail just to oust a director? Jeez, did Snyder do something to you? When the only blemishes you have on your record is an average movie (AoU) and a mediocre movie (Thor 2), while everything else you've put out has been fantastic, I think they're allowed a pass. Even Ant-Man and GotG, two strange properties that might not have translated well from book to film, did well. Man of Steel was bad. Snyder is bad. Superman Returns with Routh was in the range between Thor 2 and AoU. In fact, from 2010-present, these movies are associated with DC: The Losers Jonah Hex Green Lantern Dark Knight Rises Man of Steel The only good / passable movie was DKR. And surprise, Nolan's name is attached to it. Just as people believe Marvel can do no wrong with a property for good reason, they are also inclined to think DC will screw up with each property...for good reason.
Yeah I know. Just passing it along. He's been right in the past. Although FTR he doesn't work for WB so he's not as close to this as he is to other things. And yes, if you must know, Snyder has abused me in the past. You see, I paid money to go watch Sucker Punch in the theater. I may never fully recover.
First time I have heard The Incredible Hulk called fantastic. Different strokes I guess. I thought it sucked.
I loved Incredible Hulk personally (though I realize it wasn't for everyone), and I think Edward Norton was the best Banner by far. With that said I do like Mark Ruffalo a lot, and I definitely wasn't in love with AoU or Thor 2.
Agreed; Hulk wasn't -awesome- but it was good, certainly better than Thor 2 and Avengers 2....which in turn weren't horrible, just not as good as the standard set by earlier Marvel films.
I think people are generally pro-Marvel because those films have been good (more or less) and anti-DC because people don't like Snyder's resume, MoS wasn't well received, and some are bitter about moving on from the Dark Knight Trilogy (and Nolan) so fast. I think that's fair. DC has to prove something first, before they get the benefit of the doubt.
Yeah, I pretty much feel that way about DC right now. I was extremely underwhelmed by MOS, and that movie seems to be the template for what they are going for. If you are going for a serious tone, it gives your movie little room for error. If it's not a near masterpiece like the Dark Knight trilogy, it can be fairly unenjoyable. Marvel has a great formula. Lots of jokes, and a lighter tone equate for a consistently enjoyable experience, even when the movie is fairly mediocre. Aside from Hulk, which I didn't care for, I haven't seen one Marvel movie I didn't enjoy. I've only seen one DC movie, and I didn't enjoy it. I sure as hell don't want it to fail, but we're in show me territory.
I have never understood everyone hating on Dark World so much - it was FAR better than the first Thor movie, which I hated. And at the same time as giving praise for Dark Knight Rises, which was by far the weakest of the three Nolan Batman movies. Honestly.. if you only had two DVDs to watch, and one was Dark World and the other was Dark Knight Rises, which one would you watch? Lol yeah I know, obviously some of you would chooses DKR, but personally I would pick the Thor movie.. it's funnier, more lively, and it has Loki in it.. DKR has Tom Hardy being goofy with a squid on his face, and bullets that slaughter hundreds but leave not even a single drop of blood. SMH. I am with you all on AoU though. It was jarring to me because they went wayyy comic-book with it, which would probably have been better received if not for how amazing Winter Soldier was, and that great gritty real-world flavor followed up by pulpy Avengers action, it just didn't mix well. I am hoping that Marvel can get away from the 'generic army horde of faceless grunts (Avengers, Dark World, AoU, GotG) as well as the "Unstoppable Menace Coming From the Sky Directly Above (tm)" (almost every superhero movie ever made) - hell they even turned Galactus into a doom-cloud from the sky.. blech!
I think the best part of a lot comic books are the villains. Doom, Venom, lex, joker, etc. I am not a fan of the huge mindless horde villains. I am surprised they don't give more screen time to the villain. It is what made DK so great.
Agreed 100%. Villains have started to become the weak link in the Marvel movies. If you're going to spend 10 years building up to Thanos he should get his own movie.
Does anyone think they are setting up Bizarro in this? There are some trailer scenes where Superman looks "too angry" to be Superman.
My theory: Spoiler That's my theory, in a nutshell- they clone Zod, the corpse of whom can be seen in the trailers, into an identical Superman character (Bizarro). OR, Doomsday is the clone of Zod gone horribly wrong and Bizarro is the clone of Superman. The big twist will be when it's revealed that Bizarro has been masquerading as Superman for the bulk of the movie. The climax battle will be the future JLA battling Bizarro, Doomsday and possibly Lex in his trademark robot.
Bad Marvel movies Incredible Hulk (Bana version) AoU Xmen3 Xmen Wolverine Thor 2 Iron man 2 Iron Man 3 Spider-Man 3 Spider-Man reboot 2 Even the best Marvel movies don't come close to touching any of Nolans Batman films. Problem is how much can DC ride on Batman? Super Man is just such a hard character to write for, part of the reason why I hate the Xmen Universe. Doesn't take long to roll your eyes at something. I don't see how Snyder meets these lofty expectations. Sad thing is that I feel the premise was good, just wrong director. Thinking Leto's Joker needs his own movie, rate it R and watch it succeed. Best villain in comic book history.
The movie with Bana is just called Hulk -- and it wasn't a Marvel Studios movie -- it was made by Universal. The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton) was Marvel Studios. All the X-men movies and Wolverine were Fox. Both Spider-man movies were Sony.

I have tickets for tonight's show. I'm expecting a movie with way too much jammed in as DC/Warner tries to jump-start their cinematic universe and tries to play catch-up with Marvel. I don't expect a good story but I do expect some great visuals and action, which is what Snyder is known for. I'll post a short review when I get home from the movie.
