I absolutely love the choice of Bane as the main adversary to Batman, although I’ve always felt Javier Bardem would have made the perfect Bane. I think something that a lot of people don’t realize about the Bane character is that he’s actually just as smart and calculating as Batman. He’s one of the few villains that actually discovers Batman’s real identity. I could totally see this being a great psychological “cat-and mouse” game between Batman and Bane. Whereas the villains in the previous 2 batman films were more about destroying/creating chaos in Gotham, I think this movie will be a more personal battle, with Bane stalking and seeking to destroy Batman himself, rather than Gotham. I totally see where Nolan is going with this.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha By the way, I wish someone would come into this thread and finally dispel the myth that Bane was all brawn and no brain!
Well said, a lot of people are picturing Bane from Batman and Robin and that is nowhere near his true persona.
All I'm saying is that I want this movie to be a success and break records all over the world.. a marketable villain will help.
I'm more interested in it being a good and interesting movie than it breaking records. And it will be a success no matter what villains are in it and who they cast.
Of course I'm more interested in that too. I hope it surprises everyone and destroys the Dark Knight.. I also hope that this movie will feel like a standalone movie..
Why can't I find any pictures of Bane unmasked? Is Tom Hardy gonna be wearing a mask the whole movie?
Isn't Tom Hardy the same height as Bale? I hope they don't use CGI or anything to make him huge or anything. Looking at all these Bane pictures, and man he's huge.
I'm talking about the comics.. I'm looking for photos of Bane in comics. There's no pic of him unmasked. or I can't find any at least.
He's shorter, he's only 5'9". That's my main concert right now, part of Bane is definitely his physicality.
And there is the main issue, I would be cautious about using the comics as the only definition of these characters. Nolan will put his spin on Bane and make him his own like he did with Joker, Two-face, Ghul, Falcone, Maroni and Scarecrow. He will we probably use Knightfall as reference but then go on his own story taking bits and pieces from the novel. He will turn Bane inside out and a combo on the comics/novel version and his own version will come out.
Knightfall was one of the dullest, most pedantic Batman event storylines of all time and I have no love for Bane. IMO he's the dullest of Batman's entire gallery of rogues. But I trust in Nolan and the inclusion of Catwoman and the casting of Hathaway has me so pumped I'm not going to let the idea of Bane bother me. The movie is going to be great.
So any story or character where the action is part of the tale isn't important? Saving Private Ryan's action sequences weren't important? What about Troy? The Conan movies? Star Wars? Braveheart? Gladiator? Lord of the Rings? Iron Man? Come on, man. I'm glad to see that superhero movies are being treated with more respect, and their STORIES are being taken and presented seriously. This makes all the difference in the world between TDK and those awful Fantastic Four movies. But action sequences are part of the superhero lore, and Batman most definitely is a superhero. For the record, I'm not complaining about Nolan's action sequences. If anything, I would like to see Batman doing more hand-to-hand combat. Batman's history is Bruce Wayne making himself the best he can possibly be, and this includes being one of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the world. Seeing more of that would be great. Again, I'm not complaining about Nolan's direction of action sequences. Far from it. I'm arguing that your implication that action sequences aren't important is every bit as silly as your assertion that Batman isn't a superhero.
Batman, in Nolan's universe especially, isn't a superhero. He's a vigilante. Do you consider Zorro to be a superhero? The Lone Ranger? The Shadow? Doc Savage? Because they're not either. p.s. I'm Batman. So don't sweat me on this. I don't give you **** about your blanket habit.
Lol. Not to argue the semantics, but Bats most certainly is a superhero, even if one of his distinguishing characteristics is that he's the only superhero who isn't "super." I know this isn't a Justice League movie, but he's still Batman, and thus deserving of the lore that is true to the character. And I've pretty much always thought of him as a complicated vigilante. And vigilante or not, superhero or not, he's still Batman and Batman lays the hurt on bad guys. Thus, action is an important component of the character.
