Ra's Al Ghul was used. His character was pretty good. Also Scarecrow. What the next movie needs is another IMPOSING villain.
i don't know that it does. first of all...no one is topping Ledger. no one. and the storyline leaves off with Batman's fall, at least in the perception of the public, through his own sacrifice. the 3rd story is the story of his redemption. i'm gonna guess they have a pretty good idea of how to tell that. but i can almost assure you, it won't top the second movie. and that's ok.
True, but that was more of a set up movie imo. And the last movie set the bar very high. A relatively unknown villian would be underwhelming, especially to a casual audience.
Nolan would have to portray Bane MUCH differently then the comics and movies, I grant you that, but Hardy can bulk up and kick Batman's ass. Hardy plays into this somehow, Black Mask is certainly a STRONG option but I'd like to see Nolan tackle Bane and see what he can do with him.
Agree Riddler makes the most sense but if the report is accurate he isn't an option. Joker and Two-Face where epic characters and trying to top that would be nearly impossible. Give me two sold bad guys and i'll be happy, no matter if it wins oscars or not. Catwomen will be interesting, she doesn't fall into Nolan's world as is, so there must be an interesting twist coming for her arrival.
First of all we have to gather all the KNOWN and POPULAR villains. Nolan has only used those that are widely known as main villains. Here they are: Joker ------------------- R.I.P. Catwoman Two Face ---------------- DEAD Ras al Ghul -------------- ALREADY USED. LIAM NEESON ISN'T COMING BACK Riddler ------------------ ELIMINATED BY NOLAN Scarecrow --------------- ALREADY USED. Poison Ivy The Penguin Killer Croc Clayface Black Mask Mr. Freeze --------- ELIMINATED BY NOLAN Mad Hatter Now we have to eliminate: Poison Ivy ----------- How do you use this villain at all realistically?? You can't. Unless Nolan wants to make a bad movie. Clayface ---------- Spiderman 3 anybody? This won't be used. Unless... they make it so that Clayface is using some Mission Impossible masks and is able to look like anybody. No. I don't think so. Killer Croc ------------- Green skin villain with super strength. No, don't turn this into Spiderman or Xmen. And we are left with plausible remaining villains: Catwoman ---------- BUT she doesn't have a terrorizing presence... she has some good in her. maybe as a 2nd villain perhaps. The Penguin ---------- could be used as some weapons dealer... but how do you do the nose without it looking stupid? Or perhaps "The Penguin" is just what the gangsters use to call him? Black Mask ----------- totally doable.. he can be used as a mob boss but this time even more menacing than all Batman has faced before Mad Hatter ------------ can be used like the Scarecrow... but i don't think this is a good idea. I'm going for either The Penguin or Black Mask. with Catwoman on the side.
I like this idea along with Catwomen however don't know if Nolan wants to use the same villains as Batman Returns although different time period and vision.
My bad... apparently Nolan has said NO to Penguin already. http://www.bestofluckproductions.com/?q=node/648
Nolan has altered the conventional notion a lot as evidenced in his portrayal of Ras Al Ghul differently, the use of Ducard (trained Batman in dectective comics series when he was young), having Two-Face's burn come from an explosion and the Joker's white makeup as opposed to facial dye due to chemical exposure. He's made a lot of changes so I have faith in his ability to go away from historical stories in order to make a better version of the Dark Knight universe.
Nolan seems like a director that would go with villains that don't have super-natural powers (strength, flight, quickness, etc). Just straight smart and diabolical but with a background that an audience can be slightly sympathetic toward. Ra's Al Ghul - Saw himself as a protector of humans but is willing to sacrafice for the greater good. Made for a pretty decent case as to why Gotham should be destroyed and rebuilt. Joker - A demented person who's goal is to destroy the system. More of a anarchist with violent background than the straight evil murderer type. Doesn't care about money, power, or respect. That being said, I would love to see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_King Ever since I was a kid and watched the animated series on Fox, I thought the Clock King was one of the most practical, intelligent, and unique villains in any comic, let alone in Batman universe. I can totally see him fitting into a category of villains that fit Nolan's profile. Clock King, the sorrowful victim of a cruel and rat-race way of life who falls to a point where revenge is all he seeks. Movie would go through how Gotham becoming "fat" knowing that Batman would protect public interest which subsequently are really controlled by private interests. There would be a point where Batman questions why he's doing what he's doing and assumes he's just another pawn in the greater game. Clock King goes about reigning terror while Batman sits by. Climax would be a point where Clock King makes it personal by hurting/kidnapping/etc someone significant to Bruce Wayne. Batman makes a comeback, takes names, and whoops some ass. The end. =P
With the names: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises. I believe the names are very telling. This film will probably follow his ascent from being chased and hated in the Dark Knight to how he establishes himself as the symbol of justice in Gotham. The Dark Knight was a dark movie in which Batman started off at the top of his game and fell to a pit. In the end the Joker won as Dent was turned into a bad guy, Rachel died and the city and people hated him. The city as the joker predicted will decay more as people see what Harvey became and ( you think I would risk Gotham's soul in a fistfight with you? ). Gotham will probably descend more violence and corruption and as the Dark Knight tested his moral compass and willingness not to go beyond his rules, I think the Dark Knight will test his detective skills and his physical skills. I think Nolan will go more Detective over physical (smaller role) as it doesn't translate well in Nolan's world. Even in BB and DK, the fight scenes were pretty minimal.
Just to be clear Rocketman, the citizens never became aware of what Dent had become. He died a martyr in their eyes, a victim. That was the whole point of Batman's ending scene with Gordon. He took the heat and became the Dark Knight.
You forgot Hugo Strange, who seems very much in line with Nolan's Bat-universe. Catwoman is a no-brainer. She has to be in this. She's perfect for Nolan, a key villain and a key love interest. As for all the Bane love in other posts, I don't get it. He's a relatively contemporary villain with a very lame and superficial back story (no pun). He's basically just a bruiser. Same with Croc. Nolan likes villains that are complicated and complex. Bane would be the lamest of choices. Catwoman would be the best. Add Hugo Strange and it's the best of all worlds.
This is going way out on a limb and I'm sure it won't happen, but Kirk Langstrom/Man-Bat would be a great sub-plot. In a Nolan film he would never turn into an actual "Man-Bat," but the idea of someone injecting himself somehow with bat DNA in an attempt to honor/emulate Batman (and it going horribly wrong) would be a great touch.
I can see Bane being a complex guy considering the similarities with Wayne. Orphan, forced to live a life he didn't want but accepted over time. They perform mysterious experiments on him using venom and he goes crazy. Nolan can expand it without introducing all the costume but instead of getting bigger, he becomes crazier and merciless. Bane is also extremely smart so it would be a challenge to Wayne, intellectually as well as physically.
The Dark Knight Rises http://www.nme.com/movies/news/christopher-nolan-announces-title-of-new-batman-f/195685
I say this in all seriousness... what about Harley Quinn? Think about it. Her abilities aren't supernatural. You could easily write her story in as to why she is appearing now that the Joker is "gone". And we have yet to see a female lead villain. I know she isn't a series icon on the level of Catwoman but I think she is more realistic. If anyone could portray her character correctly it would be Nolan. All he has to do is find the right actress as he did with the Joker role.
Give Killer Croc scarification instead of the green skin. Search "Crocodile Men of East Sepik" to get an idea of what I mean.
