I must be the only one who thought really high of Die Hard 4. Maybe it was because all the other action films released around that time weren't too great.
Die Hard is arguably the greatest action film ever made. I definitely think so.

    IMO:
Die Hard>Live Free or Die Hard>Die Hard 2>Die Hard 3: With a Vengeance

I would highly highly suggest you see the first Die Hard movie. The reviews of that movie both then and now were that it is appreciably different from the Van Damme/Arnold schtick of the 80's. Trust me...I can't stand those movies. Die Hard is entirely different than that. Tight script...great action...and a believable character who doesn't insert himself into the situation and would just prefer to be home. Great movie...

This, to me, is what was missing from Die Hard 3 and 4. He became this indestructable Superman, when, in the first movie (and the second, to a certain extent), he spends a lot of his time getting his butt kicked and just fighting to survive.

Even his little line at the end "007 of Plainfield, NJ", while funny, is the exact OPPOSITE of how the character started. He wasn't 007: he was just a cop, in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I do like that they brought back the Beethoven, though.

I agree 10000%. The story in the first was particularly compelling because he wanted no part of it. At one point he says to the key villain that if he'll just open the front door, he'll leave. Totally different from every other action hero character particuarly of that era. A reluctant hero....but for his wife being in the mix, you wonder if his character would even bother getting involved.

Help me understand, how does John McClane have a son??? Rememer in the first installment in the series when Richard the reporter guy went to interview Holly Gennero's family with the maid and the two girls??? Where the F was the son at??? Never mention of a son in parts 1,2,3??? Or 4???? Maybe the fifth installment would tie all the loose ends and explain all this..

Was the son in the first film's family photo that Holly turned face down (and Hans Gruber eventually flipped up for his, "Aha! You're married to the protagonist!" moment)?

Not sure. Gonna have to watch the movie again for that particular scene.. To be honest they should have ended the franchise after part 3.

Saw an extended trailer in the theater and he was talking about his son with that line, who is some sort of spy overseas.

Do agree that he got ridiculous in 3 and 4.

Upon further review, looks Like McClane does have a son.

I didn't think it was two girls that were interviewed. It was one girl and one boy with the maid.
