why is the movie opening like this? are they trying to build some kind of word of mouth? his last picture won best picture, seems like his next would be a normal wide opening
So I saw this movie earlier tonight, it was playing at The Landmark in River Oaks...I have to say, I loved it!
Can someone please give a more lengthy review? I am expecting this to be an inspiring movie.. at least that's what I'm hoping for. A movie that will touch my heart like Adam Sandler's Click.
Heard it was good, but a bit graphic. Was told a few people had to get up and leave and even had a person or two vomit. Just an fyi in case you are the squeamish type.
I saw it at River Oaks theater this afternoon. Good movie, but not as incredible as these reviews are making it out to be. No way it is an Oscar contender or anything.
Its definitely inspiring and interestin. But really, there is only so much you can do with a story like this. Its a pretty short movie and they did as much as they could with the material provided. Like I said, pretty good movie, better than most, just not a GREAT movie.
Thanks for the quick review. Based on what you said, it sounds like an incredible, Oscar-worthy film to me.
I enjoyed it as well. His story within "the story" was an interesting way to guide the audience through what Aron Ralston might have had going on in his head. That said "the scene", while graphic, wasn't too much to handle. In fact the Youtube interview of Aron posted earlier in this thread weighed on me much more intensely than the movie. Still, it was good and worth the price of admission.
Yeah, I did not find that scene bad either, I was more grossed out by the scene when he drank the piss due to the acting and the way it was shown on camera going through the camelback. Cutting off an arm has been done in plenty of movies at this point and it was not a big deal anymore.
The struggle with that was one of the largest components of the movie, it would have been idiotic to simply leave it out
I think they should have drawn it out more. IMO Ralston's detailed description of the self-amputation was far more intense than watching the quick version.
I don't know that it needed to be drawn out lol but I agree with rhino17 in that it absolutely had to be depicted. Would have made zero sense otherwise. Talk about intense though. You felt like you were right there with him "feeling" the pain he felt (obviously not to the same extent). Most of the audience in the theater stood up clapping and cheering when he broke free. It was pretty cool.
