desihooper... I don't think Kareem is a lost cause, but you make a good point about his "football speed." As far as scouting, the knock I heard the most on him when he was drafted was a lack of "fluid hips." To me, that's a "football speed" kind of term. He's a coachable kid though, so hopefully we can develop his game in a way that overcomes that. Is there an unsigned vet out that we can start a "Movement on the X front?" for? Is there a disgruntled veteran that we can get a 2nd round pick for? It was mentioned in another thread but I'll bring it up here... Antwaun Molden anyone? Does Sherick McMannis tickle anyone's balls? Or do we leave Kareem out there and let him learn on the job?
Heyward-Bay is actually limited by his team at this point - he's not the joke people expected just because he went before Crabtree. When they get the ball to him, he's been good. And considering how piss poor our secondary has been, you really can't dismiss anyone out of hand.
I'm not giving up on him by any stretch, I'm just concerned that his OJT might cost us a game or two along the way. He's a willing tackler, and supposed to have good technique. The problem with relying on good technique is that you have to be 100% right in what you're doing else risk getting beat by someone who is physically better than you. He got off his technique on that big play to Roy Williams, lost his footing, and couldn't recover. He'll grow up in time and be better next year (remember, he came out a year early as junior). I just know that there's a real fine line between 8-8/9-7 and 10-6/11-5 in the NFL, and a couple of games knocks us out of the playoff picture. An improved pass rush will help, but if the Cowboys are going to "max protect" and get the ball out quickly, at some point, it's going to be on the DBs to limit the damage through the air and not exacerbate it by missing tackles, falling down, whatever.
This is so true. Romo was getting the ball out 2 seconds after the snap almost every time, so I think the D-line has taken some unnecessary criticism this week. It's impossible to get a pass rush when the QB is getting the ball out that quick. The burden falls on the DB's to keep the QB from completing so many quick throws. What's the solution? Sure, we can always blitz more, but that exposes our DB's even more than they already are. On the flip side, most of the sacks given up by the Texans have either been because of Schaub holding the ball too long (i.e. coverage sack) or because of a blitzing LB/DB. Our guys aren't getting flat-out beat like they were at the beginning of last season. Even Butler held his own against Ware, all things considered. Now, the goal-line blocking, that's another thread....
DHB is a worse receiver than Jackson is a DB and that is saying a lot. I have seen DHB play a lot and even Jackson can cover him. Bey can run fast. He has no moves, no cutting ability, and no hands. I'm not worried in the least bit.
Unbelievable. I'm usually one to give the team the benefit of the doubt. But after seeing the state of the pass defense through three games, and knowing that it's an uncapped year - this is basically inexcusable. I keep wanting to believe there's more to the story than Bob being cheap, but maybe there's not.
I went with quoting the last scene in dumb and dumber, schobel replacing the swimsuit models. I think Mcnair not wanting to pay up has to do more with his status in the owner's round table, which is sad because winning should be the first priority.
Was listening to 610 and according to McClain (so take with a grain of salt), Schobel is not in football shape and both parties agreed that it would take a few weeks for him to get into shape. The Texans didn't feel he was worth the money he was asking considering the shape he is in.
Yeah, heard the same. Schobel said this is it when asked (paraphrasing) would he consider continuing to work out and then try to come back again in a few weeks. McClain_on_NFL
Schobel wanted to be a starter and paid like one while it would have taken at least a few weeks to get in decent football shape. At this point he isn't better than Mario Williams or Antonio Smith. I think if they would have signed Schobel, you would have saw a lot of Smith at defensive tackle.
