I agree but look at the crap that the Mav's are supposedly offering to NJ for Kidd. Just a bunch of almost expiring contracts. Look for the Mavs to make a push for disgruntled New Jersey Nets star Jason Kidd. While the Nets seem to be in a cost-cutting mode, moving Kidd's $90 million contract over the next 5 years would be optimal to the Mavs who can give up recently acquired Calvin Booth (three years remaining, $19 million), Jerry Stackhouse (three years, $22.5 million), Tariq Abdul-Wahad (three years, $22 million), Tony Delk (two years, $6.5 million) and Christian Laettner (one year, $6.2 million). http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap.php The Nets obvioiusly want to rid themselvs of Mornings contract and I can't think of a better way to do it than with our TE. All other players are free agents that will likely not even get the MLE since most teams have already used their MLE.
I'm thinking about the picks NJ has already lined up - 3 from the Nuggets in the Kmart deal, and a second rounder from the Clippers in the Kittles deal. We take Zo with an amendment or codicil stating that if x games are missed then there is a team option to void his contract. We get one of the Denver picks and the Clippers pick. Zo is a good backup to Yao, playing 10 - 12 minutes or so, some in the first half, some in the second. His new kidney can probably take that. He doubles as a rebounding coach for Yao. If he retires, Les saves money. We still get the picks. It's all good.
I would only offer Mo T for Zo (plus Williams to make the numbers work). He's not going to ever really come back, and isn't worth going into the luxury tax for (which using the TE would mean). Keep in mind that it's not just about paying dollar for dollar for how high you are above the $53 million mark. You miss out on the dividends; which last year were over 10 million. A longshot backup center isn't worth a difference in $15 million or so. Evan
