So this week John and Lance had an interesting topic about basically creating a Mount Rushmore in every city with the top sports legend's bust.
I guess you would have to go with 4 heads.

So what do you guy think of Houston??

I go with this as the top 4 Houston legends....

Hakeem Olajuwon - The all-time legend in Houston sports history IMO. Went to UH helping Phi Slamma Jamma to 2 NCAA Championship appearances and took the Rockets to back-to-back titles.

Earl Campbell...only played 5 productive seasons but put the Oilers on the map with his Dolphins MNF game and became a hero. Texas native also.

Craig Biggio - Mr. Astro after 20 years of service. Not Mr. Playoffs, but DID assist the Astros to multiple playoff runs and a World Series. The statue in front of MMP says enough.

Rudy Tomjanovich - The most successful coach in Houston history with 2 titles. Also a Rockets lifer. This was a hard choice.

The last one was hard because theoretically Cynthia Cooper or Van Chancellor can be one since the Comets won 4 titles with them...but it's the WNBA...yuck!!

Close, but not Rushmored in Houston IMO are:
Nolan Ryan, Joe Morgan, Warren Moon, Calvin Murphy, Moses Malone,
Mike Scott, Bum Phillips, Guy Lewis, Clyde Drexler, Jeff Bagwell, Jose Cruz, Jimmy Wynn, Milo Hamilton, Gene Peterson.......

    Whatta ya think................

I would switch Rudy T for Nolan Ryan.

Oh, and you cannot forget Vince Young.

    Yeah...right!!!!

Actually what did Ryan do all that great? He had mediocre record with the Astros. Roy Oswalt is already more successful than Ryan ever was with the Astros. Oswalt is a pitcher...Ryan was a thrower..which is why he walked so many. He also threw a helluvalot K's and had no-hitters.
I agree Ryan is a legend...but Rudy won banners. When you think of the Rockets...Rudy comes to mind as well as Hakeem.

When you think about the Astros it's Biggio and probably Bagwell next in line. I don't think of Ryan as much. Not to mention Ryan went to the Rangers...yuck. He's a legend...but not Houston's top 4.

    Hakeem is a no brainer.

The other 3 are debatable. If you're choosing one guy from every team, Bags gets the nod from the Stros and either Earl or Moon from the Oilers.

No Jeff Bagwell? Geez, he was the Olajuwon on those 90+ win Astro teams.

hakeem would not be very fond of this idea.
    But here are my 4:
Drexler(since hakeem can't be there),jeff, craig, and bob mcnair
I would also rename bush international to Les Alexander international, mr. les alexander international :)

    Good call on Hakeem.

Earl: best player to ever play football in Houston
    Bagwell: same, baseball
    Drexler: 2nd, bball
Moon, Ryan, Biggio fight it out for the Roosevelt.

If we can have a "coaches wing", put up: Bum, Guy V, Rudy...JVG? ;)

No offense, but how old are you?

Dammit: forgot about Lewis & Foreman. Lewis is in; Foreman goes in the pool with Biggio, Ryan, Drexler & Moon.

    Earl, Bags, Carl, ....

The problem with certain individuals is that they did not play team sports...so didn't really impact the city like others.
For instance, did Carl Lewis bring Houston together? No! Is there even a statue of him? I don't remember a parade for them or 50K fans lining the streets to greet them home from a game or fill a stadium to see them.
I've never worn a shirt or cap with Lewis on it.
Same for Foreman. They lived here...but did not represent Houston. They represented America if anything.
