Thats the same thing I was thinking. Im not too sold about Peek or Babin playing at the other end spot so if we can grab Kiwanuka with the first pick in the 2nd round then im all for it. Then like you said we need to address our secondary after that. Dunte is the only player worth anything back there.
I'd be surprised if we took a DE in the second round with Weaver, Babin, Peek and Kalu. But we definitely need help at OL and CB, and we could use some youth at LB.
Both Peek and Babin will be much improved going back to their natural positions, where they no longer have to worry about dropping into coverage, and the can do what they do best, get after the QB.
OL and CB with 2nd and 3rd round picks. We basically need to upgrade the right side of the line a little bit, then get a top notch corner, then start adding depth. Do not be surprised if we make a run for the wild card next year.
Just wondering, but if Marcus Mcneill, Jonathan Scott, and Eric Winston are all available when our 2nd pick comes around, which one of these 3 would yall pick, if we were to pick an OL with that pick. Mcneill- Height: 6-7 5/8 | Weight: 336 | 40-Time: 5.07 Winston- Height: 6-7 | Weight: 255 | 40-Time: 4.77 Scott- Height: 6-7 | Weight: 310 | 40-Time: N/A If we want a quicker, agile OT due to zone-blocking, I figure we would go with Winston but McNeill and Scott sure are mammoths.
Winston weighs 310, not 255. We were very interested in Scott at his Pro Day, and I think both him and Winston can play RT in the zone blocking scheme. I'm not sure McNeil has the footwork to play in our system, I think he's more of a mauler type, I'm not sure though.
Just not sold on either one of them. Every preseason we hear the hype about Peek having a breakout year and we're still waiting for it. If you can get a guy that has a chance to be a 10+ sack DE one day (Kiwanuka) then you have to get him. Babin and Peek will probably be role players at best for the rest of their careers.
Eric weighs 310. I would rank them Winston, McNeil, Scott. Winston is raw but has a lot of abilty. He fits with Kubiak system because he requires his O-Lineman to be quick.
Wow, that's a great question. Tough one, though. What does one gage his response on ? Physical prowess ? Keen detection skills ? The ability to banter well with super villains ?
Hopefully you are right. Our major needs IMO for the other 3 first day picks should be OL, DB, and either DE or LB.
Yeah, we've been waiting so long for those breakout seasons. Babin is entering his third year, and he was hurt basically all last year. Peek has been amazing when he's been given the chance to just go after the QB, and not have to worry about playing in coverage, and he'll only be in his 4th year.
Winston ran the 40 in 4.94, not 4.77. Other workout numbers include 22 reps on the bench, 33 inch vertical, and 8'3" broad jump. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=11063

From the drafts I've seen, Winston is most likely going in the 2nd round along w/ Jonathan Scott from UT. McNeil might be grabbed either in the middle or near the end of the 1st round. It would be good to get McNeil, but Winston would be a good person to insert or train to work w/ our OL.
Thanks man I got it but if you take time to read the last page you will find out that the talk went away from Moulds.
If the dude has ability you can see it. Shawntee Orr was on the practice squad most of the year and came in and had more sacks than Babin and Peek. A breakout season for either one of those players will be 6 sacks at the most. If you can grab a legit pass rushing DE like Kiwanuka you take him. Babin and Peek are role players and won't be anything more and I'll put any type of bet on that.
I think an even better scenario would be if Darren Colledge drops to the third and we are able to get him. He seems to be one of the best overall tackles for the zone-blocking scheme. Also, he was one of the best performing linemen at the senior bowl and has left tackle potential due to his footwork and technique which are among some of the best in college football. I think he would be a great addition at the RT spot. And if we can get him with one of our 3rd's this would allow us to look at the best available of DE, LB, S, or CB in round two.
Great pick up by the Texans, glad he only cost a 5th rounder. Looking forward to the coming season. Until then.... GO STROS!!!!
