not anymore UPDATE "There will be no change to the data packages for existing customers for the duration of their contract and we apologise for any confusion caused. The revision to the Fair Use Policy is designed to ensure an improved quality of service for all mobile internet users"
The laptop dock includes a screen, a keyboard, and a trackpad. There's nothing else on it. So yes, it uses the phone's data. The best part is, if you're still grandfathered with AT&T's unlimited, you get to keep it for this phone too.
tell that to the unrevoked dev team. it takes them awhile (though a lengthier method was made available beforehand). ex: newer evo bootloader. not to mention the availability of roms and if those roms are able to get even the normal fucntions of the phone to work properly (hdmi, front/back cam, mms, etc). if you're a dev, i take all of the above back.
I know nothing about tech... so apologies if this is a stupid question. In regards to "docking" how far away are we when we can actually do it all wireless, instead of having to physically dock. Not to compare to Apple in anyway other than because i know it works like this, the itv airplay thing just does it wirelessly, right?
May have said it as understatement.. but I know what you're trying to say. All I was saying was... eventually it gets cracked and its behind everyone. It certainly is a long process and not an easy one. Not sure what you're referring to. Are you talking about streaming media, such as Videos, Music, etc.? The docking feature has webtop among other things which all require you to have it connected physically to the dock.
yeah, i know apple tv doesn't quite do all that. question just is everything i saw in the first video posted by the OP associated with the docking, how soon till that all will be wireless. it's definitely cool as is, but if you could just wirelessly "dock" that would be money.
This phone may never get a full root, if it has a locked bootloader (more than likely does) it probably won't ever be perm rooted. Doesn't matter if the webtop software gets hacked or not
I think we're at that point in phones where computers were at in the early 2000s. Every year is going to yield a much better phone than the year prior. All in all, it sucks if you like having cutting edge because the only future proof phones are dumb phones.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that somehow it's unlocked. If it's locked.. it really screws things up. But, I did hear that it AT&T might be doing wifi hot spot with this phone.
does anyone know if the laptop dock has its own battery? I cant imagine the phone lasting that long having to power a larger display.
Here's a press release vid from Motorola about the Atrix 4G. Really just an overview vid. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gD8CgBdGCZk?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gD8CgBdGCZk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Looks this thing is going to be loaded with Motorola's bootloader which means no custom kernals, though you can still put custom roms on it. It's just a matter of time before Motorola's ****ty bootloader is cracked.
Yeah. There's always a jailbreak/ROOT/etc. within the first couple of days of a new phone hitting stores.
Ok. I am about to upgrade. I have a Sprint FlipPhone <Samsung or some such> Time to join the 21st century and get a smart phone So . . should I grab the EVO Which I have lusted after for some time or Should I wait for the next big thing [Is it in FEB? or June?] If FEB I can wait and see . .. June. . I will get an Evo and such f' it Rocket River
In Feb, there will be Sprint's conference, the MWC (Mobile World Congress), and HP's announcement of phones. Chances are those phones announced aren't going to come out right away (I'd probably say April at the earliest).
The idea/execution looks good so far, but the power seems to be lacking if you want to use it as a laptop replacement. Will be looking forward to future phones like this.
Looks like this thing might be priced at $150. Amazon had a leak yesterday on their website about the Atrix being $150 but that was later taken down. Today, Engadget got ahold of a Costco inventory pic which shows it at $150. If it stays... definitely a great price. http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/28/motorola-atrix-4g-apparently-priced-at-150-by-costco-too/
thats going to be a ridiculous price if it ends up being $150, Thunderbolt is rumored at $250 and wondering how much the Droid Bionic will be the only way i see it being that cheap is if they sell it just the phone itself and charge lets say $75-100 for the TV/PC dock and another $100+ for the laptop attachment. The Charging Stations/GPS Car holder were going at $30/each, so I can see them charging a lot more for the dock/laptop since they do more than just display the time
I think the laptop dock is already been rumored to be $150. I would agree that the dock's will all at least be $100... Just hoping they come out with some cheaper 3rd party ones. Here's a new vid that Motorola released: <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mWEvWYbxLEo" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
