If only to move up in the #9-#10 range. I'd say it's more likely to trade one of them with a player to move up in the draft or acquire a player more suited for the team (a mobile big? a better decision-maker on the perimeter?)
That sounds like a good idea. The only problem with that is after around #5, you would probably be getting the same type of player where ever you pick. So, because of that, it would be best to just keep the pick if possible. We still have Dallas' pick to trade with.
Strictly PF. I don't think they've played him at center at all. Not in the games I've watched, anyway. --- Again, a reminder that the next game is tomorrow at 12:00PM ET. This link should work: http://195.245.213.199/Ch0006 (open it with a media player of your choice).
All the games Ive watched he's been posting up alot on offense. Whether that means he's a center or a PF I dont know, but what I can tell you is he typically guards the bigger post player on defense. So, yes he's playing the post which is good. Whether you want to call it a Center or PF is up to you and the stat sheet I guess. When he played with Treviso he sat on the perimeter way too much as a wing or a stretch 4. With Prokom he's taken on the role of a post player much more, but he still has his tendencies to want to be a point guard in some alternate universe.
Not sure about that from what Ive seen. The other post player that starts is more of a banger PF type. I think he's only 6'8" or something. Even though he's doing alot of the dirty work in the paint, Im pretty sure they list Donatas as the starting Center.
Here's his bio I found- http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/hrycaniuk_adam00.html From the games Ive seen, he's more of an energy big type. Looks more like 6'8" in games. It would be like if you played Chuck Hayes and Pau Gasol together, Pau would be listed as the Center, but we all know who would be doing the dirty work if you know what I mean.
Whether a guy plays posts up a lot or not doesn't really matter with assessing a player's positing IMO. There are quite a few of centers who pretty much don't post up (D.Jordon, T.Chandler, Haywood, Perkins, etc...). Can't say I agree with that. From what I've seen he's usually guarding whoever is spreading the floor. They do switch quite a lot, though.[/QUOTE] This is true. D-Mo is in the post a lot on offense and Prokom runs quite a bit of their offense through him, which wasn't really the case in Treviso. The guy who's starting at center (Adam Lapeta) is 7'1", 285. He's a center, without question. All he does is set picks and dunk. He's not very mobile, so he's usually guarding the slowest/fattest guy on the floor. At times (when the 7'1" guy is on the bench) D-Mo plays next to a guy (Adam Hrycaniuk) who's 6'8" 240. He's a PF/C, but he doesn't have too much of an outside game so he usually is somewhere close to the basket, while D-Mo is spreading the floor or posting up on the opposite block.
I'm wondering if we could get Jared in the draft somehows if he would be a good fit with Motie. Sounds like there are possibilities.
What I meant by that is whether or not he's a center or a PF really doesn't matter on the stat sheet. He's not always the guy doing a bulk of the dirty work, but neither would Andrea Bargnani if he was playing next to Chuck Hayes if you know what I mean. From what Ive seen, yes he's a post player, but I wouldn't get caught up in the whole, is he a center or a PF conversation. It really doesn't matter IMO, but in the NBA he's going to need a ton of help in the paint. Whether thats a Chuck Hayes type or a Deandre Jordan type who knows. He's a finese big with alot of versatility. Not a traditional NBA Center, but neither are alot of guys in the NBA listed as their teams "center." Hope that helps explain what I was trying to get at. Dont expect him to go battle Andrew Bynum and Dwight Howard next year, but dont be shocked to see him in a lineup matched up with Scola or Patterson either.
Yeah, I got that. And I agree. Well... I'd say it does and doesn't matter. Yes it doesn't really matter what you label D-Mo as, but I have no doubt that he (and the team) would be best served if he's playing next to a guy who can anchor the defense. D-Mo isn't too good a man, nor help defender. He's gotten better at it, but he's probably still what I would call below average to average. He's got the tools to improve to the point where he might be above average one day. He may even turn out to be a good to very good pick&roll defender, but you still want a big who can protect the paint. That guy Motiejunas is not. Chandler. Howard. Bynum. Gasol. Bogut. Favors. Valanciunas, whenever he'll be big enough. That's the type of player you want him to pair D-Mo with IMO. Obviously that's easier said than done, as those guys are very hard to come by. Oh I wouldn't be shocked by that at all. It actually might work out OK every now and then, too. It's all about matchups. Still, a lineup with D-Mo at center isn't a lineup I'd use too much, as your defense will take a hit no matter how little of an offensive-factor the guy he is guarding out there is (see reasons above).
Totally agree. Thats what I was getting at. We are going to hear the whole, Is he a 4 or is he a 5 thing alot until essentially the end of next season. Everyone will want to say he's the next "this guy" or "that guy." Fans should temper their expectations of him being the next traditional center of the future. He's not that. Ideally you'd love to match him up with a Tyson Chandler type. Dalembert/Camby would be a nice combo to help in the middle, and he could give you the opportunity to go small at times late in games like McHale likes to do if he trusts Donatas. That being said, if he struggles on defense like he has over in Europe, he's not going to get much playing time at all. From everything Ive seen with his footspeed and athleticism, he has the tools to be effective enough on defense with a little work. I hope that wont be an issue that keeps him on the bench, but right not thats the main concern that I see.
Would a front line of Camby, Patterson and Montiejunas work? Would his height allow him to play (off of) SF's?
well, the way mctalky allows for other teams to dictate what he's going to do, d-mo will be our center in the 4th quarter.
Playing either Donatas or Patterson on the perimeter could really enforce some bad habits that both players have or have had at times previously on defense. You want both of these guys to be putting a body on someone in the paint. Not floating around the perimeter. On offense, I think you could play Donatas at the 3 some, but you probably dont want a steady diet of him shooting jump shots from long range. If he's going to be an foundational player, you want him in the post, or at least getting jump shots in the paint. His shots are best served from the 10 to 15 range due to his shot being pretty flat. I dont think a big lineup of Camby/Patterson/Donatas would be good, but you have enough versatility with Donatas/Parsons/ and Morris to get some pretty interesting lineups next season at the 3 & the 4 spots.
