Motiejunas Highlights likey Relooking at these highlights...Motiejunas is in the paint a lot. He kind of reminds me of a more athletic version of Scola(his idol afterall) with more range. I think his moves are not as refined as Scola's but most players aren't at his age. I always liked him and think he will be a solid rotation player next year. He is a walking mismatch like how Dirk is...of course not at that level but the sky is the limit...push up 4 or 5 infinite...Nas.
Legendary Motiejunas You are correct. NBA is all about matchups. I think Motiejunas will be fine on defense. He may get burnt during the rookie and sophomore hazing but he will give whoever is guarding him fits as well. Give and take. He is a rare mold of skills and height that could be wait for it....
How soon can he come over? I want him on an all steak diet and in the weight room. I want McHale to teach him all his old moves. Train him like a Rocky montage.
No worries on the grammar. Thanks for the breakdown. If Jefferson were acquirable, that would be an interesting frontline.
He already has a great post skills package But the teacher as McHale for this young man won't be bad As his results shows he is already better than a lot Lithuanian PFs so I could say he will play in LT National team this summer. If Lithuania enters the Olympics he will play there as well.
Don't forget CD and possibly some time with the Dream. I really hope that we're not hyping him up to for a big let down ala Marcus Morris (although the verdict is still out on him)
I actually was thinking about a taller version of Scola as well. Seems like he has that craftyness to his game.
You are, but that's okay. On Marcus Morris, for what it's worth, I had a chance to ask J.B. Bickerstaff recently about Morris as a prospect going forward. J.B. honestly (and I really think he is being genuine here) thinks that Morris could be a very good player. As in, a primary go-to scorer. While he warned against using the comparison to mean that he'd be a similar caliber player, Bickerstaff reiterated that the coaching staff sees a lot of Carmelo Anthony in Marcus's game (and even reviews game footage of Melo with him). According to Bickerstaff, Morris has the ability to create space in advance of his shot, a skill that few other players on the Rockets have. He's a guy a team could give the ball to and go get a basket. Again, I'll be the first to admit that I was PISSED that the Rockets took Morris over Kawhi Leonard; but I understood the need to swing for a home run (Morris as a "power 3", with a decent chance he'd bust out at that position and end up as a mediocre PF) rather than go for the solid double (I thought and still think that Leonard was a safe bet as a defensive stopper SF and, best case scenario, could even be another Shawn Marion). Here's hoping that Marcus Morris takes that "next step" over the summer and comes back as a significant part of the rotation (or at worst a key piece of a trade package for a superstar).
Why not consider an actual threat for the PF spot...we should look at nabbing Ersan Ilyasova as a free agent(Bucks) He plays offense and defense...has range as a shooter and is 6'10"- 6'11"
Hah! Bima, all we have is hopes and dreams at this point and I'm just hoping these two prospects pan out.
I'm very hopeful for Motiejunas, but am uneasy with how much we're pinning on him before he comes over. Right now, we NEED him to be a 40 min, 18-11-2 stud. We can't have another weak sauce 9-6 backup frontcourt type. But it's royally unfair to expect him to be more than that, especially out of the gate.
he is the last hope, the unknown. If some can get a hard on for future volume shooters coming out of this year's draft, we have the right to get a hard on for this seven footer. 12 points and six rebounds should be enough his rookie season. =)
if there is a player like that available...i would get him...and his name is Check out his stats from this year... http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2767/ersan-ilyasova
Good to hear about Morris. I don't think that his situation (moving to SF from PF, trying to figure out which moves work in the NBA as a primary scorer) lends itself to an quick transition to the pros in a lockout-shortened/no-training-camp year. Parsons, on the other hand, has an easier transition to make basically playing the same complementary wing player role that he played in college. Would be interesting to see Morris in Vegas Summer League. Of course, it's probably too much to expect any young player to be near Melo's level, but one can certainly play similar to Melo's style while falling a little short of his elite status (example: Beasley?).
motiejunas isalot better player than ilyasova, way more talented, and comes cheap. i qm happy to see ilyasova doing well because dmo could play even better
I see a lot of skill from Donatas. He reminds me a lot like Scola and Gasol. Only time will tell if he'll be as good as them.
Part of me is hoping our offseason brings us an upgrade at the 4 who can legitimately (i.e., NOT Scola or Patterson) slide to the 5, getting DMo some 22-24 mpg at the 4 (to begin with). At 240 pounds, DMo'd still get slapped around a bit at the 5.
