Morey said he is going to be with the Rockets next year, but obviously nothing is for certain until he signs on the dotted line with the Rockets. I have to believe that if Morey really wants him to come over, he will find a way even if they have to arrange a sizable buyout.

I think alot of it will come down to what the roster looks like after March 15th and how much playing time Donatas will get next year.

If it looks like he's third string at best, then it might be good to let him stay one more year in Europe as long as he confirms with the Rockets that he wont sign a long term deal with a team and end up with a Scola/Spurs type of situation.

If motiejunas stay in europe next season i think he need a better team which can offer many minutes on court and euroleague playoffs or top16.. becouse now motiejunas just playing in 1 league VTB.. poland champ starts for asseco prokom team just in playoffs..

it would make no sense at all for him.

if he stays for just another year, the money will be less, AND he will still have to sign on the mid/late 1st rookie scale once he's in the NBA.

it makes much more sense to either come now or sign a long deal for good money and stay for at least 2-3 years.
Then he gets paid now, and he can get paid better in a couple years in the NBA too as the rookie scale wouldn't apply anymore.

It's all about guaranteed money. He will be able to get a great multi-year deal in Europe this summer, likely above what the Rockets can offer. As long as he's willing to stay for a while.
It would be stupid not to do that just because the Rockets want so.

If Donuts plays for 3 years in Europe he's no longer bound by the rookie scale.

well that's the point. it's either next year, or in 2014 at the earliest. it makes no sense for him to stick for only one more year.

Could the Rockets still get Motiejunas in Houston this year if they make a trade that creates enough cap space?

I really hope we bring him over. If Scola is getting time in our rotation at C, I can see Donuts getting time there as well.

I didn't see your post. I posted too early after only reading the previous page.

I'm starting to think Dmo will be gone before he ever puts on a Rockets uniform. He may be our best trade asset to land a superstar.

I don't quite think you put the sarcasm on thick enough. He looks like a contributor.

Based on what? Do you seriously think a #20 pick who hasn't played a game yet in the NBA (and who might not for another year) is really that highly prized? He looks like a nice prospect, but be realistic.

Did something happen that i didn't notice? Does D-Mo not want to come next year?? I was getting really excited that he might be our hidden gem like Lowry turned out to be.

His value has increased. With the improvement in his rebounding, he would probably be a top 5 pick this season.

I didn't say he would net us a superstar by himself, I said he might be our biggest trade asset in landing a superstar. Teams want guys with potential for their superstars. Dmo provides lots of that in a 7'+ package.

What happened is Morey said he's coming over next summer, D-Mo's coach said that he's staying with Asseco next season, and the Rockets international scout said that he is most likely coming over, but if he doesn't they have "plans" for him.

So read into that what you will. Nobody knows for sure what Donatas truely wants, but based on everything you hear I think he would want to get over to the NBA ASAP, and off of that awful team in Poland.

The Rockets obviously are set on bringing him over as well, but the problem lies in another European team offering him a good deal of money before the summer and him taking that over potentially riding the pine in the NBA.

You look at Sergio Llull as an example here of what could happen if a team like Real Madrid can make you one of their franchise players and also pay you more than the Rockets would have to do the next 2 or 3 years.

So to answer your question, nobody knows what is going to happen for sure, but it looks like it could be a challenge to get him with the Rockets next season. The fact that Morey seems hellbent on getting him over though should make us feel much better about it though. With his other international players he has drafted he seems more than happy to let them stay overseas. The fact that he only is saying he's going to be a Rocket next year is a very good sign.

Donatas motiejunas coach left asseco prokom team due financial difficulties so maybe motiejunas leaving prokom too? and coming to rockets?

Roster stands at 15 I believe. There would have to be a trade.
