It was the lone positive..... All the electronic stuff is replaceable, but it's certain items like jewelry her dad gave her when she was a kid etc. are irreplaceable. Worst part for her is knowing they were probably just pawned and are being melted down. I'm really happy they dropped the ring though. Knowing they missed out on its value. And...of course the fact she still has it, don't think she has taken it off yet since she found it on the floor.
Crazy. That's the town I grew up in. Of course, when I grew up there, it was tiny, with one elementary, junior high, and high school. With a growing population usually comes a bit of riff raff, I guess.

Man, this story is crazy. Things like that don't really happen very much in Aus. She seemed to be thinking pretty quick on her feet, I'm glad everyone (of importance) is ok.
Yeah, story doesn't fully add up. Guessing something got lost in translation. I hate to say this, but it almost sounds fake and like an advertisement for the NRA. Edit: Some of the comments claim they called police and they had no record of this incident, but the article now states an arrest has been made.
I can't believe someone feels they need a gun for a situation that's almost never going to happen. There's very little chance of a burglary while you're home. There's even less chance that an intruder on hearing the alarm go off will stick around knowing that the cops are on the way and people are there. Really strange at the level of paranoia out there. I feel horrible that the lady had to go through that ordeal. However having guns laying around the home with a six year old is very irresponsible. She's lucky her children weren't hurt or killed. According to her own statement the intruder took one of her own guns away from her, doesn't sound too safe.
