I insist that women's basketball should just play at daycare centers. I mean think about it:

    • If, on the off chance, any of these kids actually get interested in the game, you've got a great base of fans to sell stuff to the rest of their lives
    • Kids will make noise
    • Or they will be in nap time (so no different than any other women's game)

You sound like one of the football players at my old high school when they tried to play pick up games with guys from the basketball team. Not good at anything but knocking people around like oafs, so they tried to bend the rules to accommodate it.

Although I don't have a problem with this particular pick, it still wasn't legal if called 100% by the book.

Very few things in sports are:Traveling violations, fouls on post players in the paint, holding penalties in football, etc...

I agree that this was just a good, hard pick. There was nothing heinous or egregious about it -- it just sucked for the girl who got blind-sided when she didn't see it coming. Bottom line.

    :(

I'm gonna hope you don't teach your squad to set picks like that; I thought you knew the rules. She can't lean INTO the pick, she should stand still. One of the replays shows it blatently. That's a foul on the picker. if she DOESN'T lean, it's clean. This time she leaned. I agree with you, even her bench (rewind if you must see it) was close to her and should have warned her. :(

It's not even close. Her feet move forward AFTER she picks, so that means that she's leaning INTO the pick. It was nasty. The refs missed it and they were in bad position to catch it properly. Pretty smart from the tall young lady if you ask me...

You are correct, sir. I'm all for some contact on the basketball court, because when basketball is called too "by the book" it really turns into a boring sport, but no way in hell that's a clean pick.

I teach my boys to protect their nuts and brace themselves in anticipation of setting the pick. We're too busy worrying about a nut crunch to lean into a pick. The pick setter does gives the defender at least 3 steps. Yeah, she leaned a bit, but she did not drop or lean in with her shouler. Her torso came forward in anticipation of the pick. Don't the think the ref that was following the ball down the court was in position to call that? Still...it's hard to argure that still frame. Now that I see it in that frame, she does seem to leaning heavily into her. If it happened to my kid, I would argue it, but I still think it's part of the game.

BTW, my boys are 15-0 right now.

    Clean pick.
If she didn't lean in she would have been hit to the ground. When you set a pick you should protect yourself, for people not paying a tention to the pick. She did that. the other girl should have paid atention(extually her teammate should have warned her). I really do not see why the commentator is so shocked. has she never played basketbal??

agreed. i thought it was a "clean" pick, as in, the picker wasn't doing anything intentional. sure, there was a lean, but i think it was more to protect herself.

lol, are y'all kidding? you think you can lean into a pick like that? you don't get to lean in in anticipation of the contact or to counteract them running into you, you just have to take what happens. if they knock you over then the refs will call a foul on the person who ran into the picker b/c just like the picker can't lean in, the pickee (?) can't just run the person over.

i'm thinking a lot of you should be put on some sort of probationary period where you can't complain about any ref calls at all if y'all can't tell that was a bad call with multiple viewings and slow-mo and still-frames.

now having said all that, it wasn't really all that huge of a collision, at least if you've seen yao decleat someone, but it was still illegal.

and thanks to whoever posted that other gif b/c that was the first thing i thought of and i haven't been able to find that video for forever.

Those that say "she leaned in to protect herself" are unaware that it's ILLEGAL to lean into a pick. Watch where the referees were standing at the call. They would not have seen the lean, hence the no-call. :(

Falcons Talon, you have gained my respect.

I showed this clip to two high school basketball coaches and they loved the no-call. That announcer was annoying.

Explain "they loved the no-call." Did they
    a) Immediately go to flowers.com to send flowers to the picker,
    b) Jump for joy ecstatically and said: "That's the way to pick, GIRL!", or
    c) Kissed each other?

I'm kiddin', of course. But, please, explain what you meant by "loved". Did they have a 15-0 record as well? :D
